  1. Yeah, it's pretty cool. The only thing not so sweet to my less than !obsessive-about-aesthetics! (you guys are but I guess in the long run its a good thing as long as everyone doesn't get that way, just the "artdept") POV is that carpet has a not-so-great texture. But seriously, I would feature your creature. It's the kind of thing that will appeal to a broad set and it's a unique to TDM beastie, nezzzzzpah? Otherwise Jesps mission really does have some great color and atmosphere opportunities for the beautificiousesnessity ... Sorry, LEGION. It did occur to me that I might want to spoiler it... should have done so. Spoilered now. If you (contradictorily! xD) want to see more of the "news" here is the trick: spawn atdm:one of the following ai_animal_horse_tame1 ai_animal_horse_tame2 ai_animal_horse_tame3 ai_animal_horse_tame4 ai_animal_horse_tame5 ai_monster_werebeast ai_monster_werebeast_crawler ai_noblewoman ai_townsfolk_wench that's a few, there are some new spiders and probably more horses and wimmins too I believe.
  2. That is exactly the same script, LEGION. So same result. I think it probably has to do with directory structures or something... anyway I don't quite understand how a script can get a hold of such an elemental hook as that which controls the behavior of such an elemental piece of gameplay equipment. Is scripting really that powerful? I thought this would be handled in the dll code somewhere as I imagined the bow behavior was/is... or maybe the bow behavior is sort of built in as a remnant of D3? Maybe the bow is classed as something more native to D3 weaponry?
  3. Did so and... yeah, exact same crash. I'm even playing a different mission, but it crashes just as early in the load.
  4. If you want some great screenshots go to Jesps latest mission... the stairs with the stained glass dome; the church; courtyards... I'm going to revisit Sonosuke's "Living Expenses" to get a look at the master bedroom with these new-fangled eyes. See what that looks like... ... Okay, so I did that and dropped in a werebeast:
  5. Ah, you graphics freaks are like wine-tasters! All this hand-wringing and oohing and aahing over things you only think you see (and often miss)... It's all in your heads. The rest of us would rather spend $15 on a nice bottle, get some down us, and go on to enjoy the broader world! Oakey undertones and sweet-potato tannins. Just kidding. (sorta)
  6. Hey, thanks, LEGION! I guess I missed that in all the ensuing... I'm going to put that in my darkmod folder right now and try it out right now. Thanks again! ... Upon having tried it. It crashes my D3 consistently. With a nice and similarly consistent "invalid memory ref" OS-caught error (i.e. "Send / Don't send"). I got XPSP3; TDM 1.03 (very clean -- deleted all old FMs and only have 2 now); No problems if I resuffix the pk4 to disable it... the crash happens quickly as the "loading" progress bar just gets started (~5% progress, if even). I don't have a "script" folder anywhere from Doom3 on down, btw, if that means anything. ... But, while I'm here and have some of y'all's attention I want to ask something that hopefully can be answered easily: I should be able to use a spawn_arg in the console to spawn the new creatures into whatever FM I am playing, no? Isn't that the original use of spawn_args? I just want to take a look at the horse, werebeast... and chicks too... without having to DR. Figured this spawn thing out. Saw some horses and werebeasts and ladies! Semi-spoilerish stuff for the team (a bita beta):
  7. All I was suggesting is the ability to abort a blackjack swipe... like you can do with the bow... without having to resort to the Thief method of switching weapons.
  8. Thanks for that, Midnight. It all sounded good up until this "feature" which honestly just worries me: It lets me know that anyone who uses this is open to having the site have too much control over personal file systems. I am NOT cool with any "service" that wants the ability to delete from my hard drive. And once again we can see from miles away that this is going to "grow" into a completely commercial enterprise. Ads or pay or ads and pay... I just don't understand people jumping around with this stuff when you can download utorrent (1.6.1) which is... completely portable... has a tiny footprint... and is based on a sharing system that is absolutely established but free of (in fact undermines and bothers the hell out of) The Establishment.
  9. Yeah, just throwing it out there seeing as how I had occasion to run a comparison. I'm sure you are well aware of the wheres and whatnots, just throwing it out there. I really think this could be a great thing. Maybe getting rid of all that "commentary" will decrease the initial "loading" "loaded please wait" time too? I mean if it is unnecessary yet still being loaded somewhere into memory, huge chunks of it... Anyway I'm really glad you have brought this savegame thing to attention.
  10. Sorry to have been using this thread as a bit of a personal venting station... apparently I needed it. But what's weird is that I swear I was seriously considering these past couple of days posting a thread about how absolutely brilliant the PC is... I mean it's just so great all the things it does do. Wikipedia, despite all the trendy knock it down snark, is truly what I always wanted from this machine, and there it is and it's (so far) not controlled by anyone but the masses which is all part of the excellence of it... and that is just one of many things I love about what the PC affords. Theres TDM (games) all of my music and visual and text -- and these things I can create or acquire and enjoy or manipulate or manipulate and enjoy... with my PC. So there is some ~alternative rant~. Balance.
  11. Okay, I'll get you the zip. Tell me how you'd prefer/recommend because my drop.io which was hassle-free has gone and sold out to facefuckingbook and all the other bigtimers (hotfile, etc) I imagine will be hassles too... but just let me know. As I mentioned the zip is ~4.8MB on best compression... so no attaching that here. This messing with these overtly commercial or otherwise scheming filesharing systems is a pain, I really wish that everyone would get to torrenting. All the cool kids do it. ... As stgatilov is not necessarily here I'm going to copy the info about this rar vs zip scenario over to that thread...
  12. Okay, I recreated a situation to get them riled and here is a savegame that for me (even after a reload) has a fascist pig (nightwatch) stuck to !!!The Tree In Question!!!. The file "Treestuck.rar.torrent.txt" is attached (remove the ".txt", it's a torrent tracked by "openbittorrent.com") it's got the savegame, the txt and the tga rared-up. ... BTW1: this relates to the savegame compression thing, and since you, grayman, are here I'll mention it here; I did a test saving this for uploading with best zip and best rar, and rar kicked zip's ass for what kind of data presently makes up a savegame --- some 2.2MB to 4.8MB (working with ~44MB raw). If you and stgatilov do decide to tackle the savegame thing maybe you can consider implementing rar libs instead? BTW2: As I was back in there messing around I decided to use a some gas arrows because I love 'em but rarely utilize 'em... and man did they freaking knock the intended for a loop a couple of times. I mean really like I'd shot the poor guy (fascist pig!) with a bazooka. Treestuck.rar.torrent.txt
  13. Wow, it's really that rough on even a 256 to load the textures? Sounds like this definitely the biggest issue going. I'm sure a whole heap of folks have 256 or less.
  14. But it's pretty... frosted glassy... no more annoying menus that have worked for years and no one ever complained about... no, no more or that screen space robbing stuff, just bigger more screen space gobbling SHIT! And what do you want your DVD drive to open for? You don't know what's good for you. You might get infected. DVD drives are dangerous. And where do you get off thinking you should decide where to focus? We'll decide what you'll focus on. Now look at this pretty frosted glass title bar. Enjoy.
  15. Okay, I'll find the savegame. Give me a while as it's Hectic Day. Really glad to be of any help. ... One other thing I meant to ask about this mission is about the
  16. Well, with 1.03 I went in and not only deleted all my FMs (and all that went with them), I also got rid of DR. And I'm not sure if I should re-install it -- not to mention if I'd be able to decide on which version is currently theOne. So, if you are curious and just want to check this out, here is !The Tree In Question!:
  17. I wish I could say more than this, but: There is not anything I like about Vista or W7. It's Balmer's (is that the goofball's name?) baby to me and that is worse than Gates. I don't know how with the small victory of people and industry managing to unite in an FU to Vista the same didn't apply to W7; it should have. Fucking restrictive-unfriendly-bloatsystem-you've-fixed-nought-andonly-fucked-up-heaps nonsense. I'm really not intending to be a smartass here but, roll "back" to XP SP3, Fidcal. If you can. You say you hate helpful "software", well you are mired in the most obnoxious example of it ever produced. Save yourself! Get out!
  18. Yeah, at one point, I got a Builder running into a tree just head-on and continuously while there was plenty of room around either side it seemed. I have the savegame if it needs investigating.
  19. Okay that is an example snipped from a huge chuck of like-wises taken from my first save in "Lockdown" (I used "Lockdown" instead of "Heart" to verify that this was not unique to "Heartr" and because the saves are corresponding with the FMpk4size proportionally smaller -- basically quicker to load into Textpad...) It may not be technically something everyone wants to agree on as "code" comments, as many folk don't agree on what "code" is (like the term "hack" )... but that is all beside my point (to me Excel macros can be described as "code", hypertext can be as well, fricken' postscript... though, I still might not call those who practice these things "programmers"). Anyway, as I say it's beside my point. My point is as you have both agreed that this stuff is some sort of notation that is not addressed to the machine but rather to the reader of the "code". And basically a whole lotta the savegame files is this kind of stuff. Now, of course with this excellent idea of stgatilov's ("let's compresss these save games") the textual stuff like this will be compressed bunches, but I was just suggesting that maybe it can be eliminated altogether to speed things up and allow for an even more succinct savegave system. IOW, I think you can see what I see, we may just be unnecessarily tripping over semantics.
  20. I do want to mention just in a very uncritical, "only putting it out there" way, a few couple of things this cool mission prompted me to jot down: I guess this is known but just in case, I noticed that a few of the posted readables (I have mentioned that I like to read what I can in the "real world" {not frobbing, even using the spyglass if necessary}) had "<title>" on them. I assume this has to do with Fidcal's excellent new(ish) system for creating such things. I wish there were more varied, bookcases & books. And I also miss the lever-switches that we'd find in bookcases, fireplaces and such too -- I think I've seen them in one FM? Or are they one of the things that won't be semi-duplicated for TDM. Used to find them a lot in T1&2 if you know what I mean. These things along with banner slashing are missed to be honest but I'm not supposed to get sentimental...
  21. Hey you guys that was really a lot more than I was expecting! I played it through and found out this mission has, for me, a few hours (3+) of gameplay! Which is, as I say, much more than I'd anticipated. So... Thanks ToadTadWater for bring up the "whatever happened to...?" (BTW -- Ironyman -- WHT ToadTadWater?) ; thanks Melan for reviving the WHT?; and of course thanks again to the 3 authors, GameDevGoro, Bikerdude and Fidcal who contributed to getting the FM wrapped up and presented!
  22. Thanks, Fidcal (and btw, thanks to all 3 of you guys for the mission). It's nice to see the new system at work and working well.
  23. Stumpy, those are great. Especially like that last one, the third picture: What is your ETA? The "Upcoming Fan Missions" Wikiboard only has "Unknown"? Any way you can update that? I like how many authors (see, for example, Sotha) give a breakdown of the development in terms of percentages of the various aspects (basic geomtry; ai placement; story/texts, etc.). In other words these latest pics have got me looking forward...
