  1. So, I suppose this is underway? Any idea how many are "in"?
  2. Okay. When I finish, I promise to go back and revisit all those areas with AA @ 4 (and maybe turn VSync off too so I get an exact reading).
  3. No. As I said, I don't have a problem with these frame rates. I know full well how to adjust things if I do need to, but I'm not bothered. I could speak a bit more on the way some of you obsess about details and tweaks -- literally spending months messing with these things -- and then turn around and speak of toning down features that do indeed have an impact on every scene in every moment as if that's nothing but "overkill". The only time I really have a lag problem is when I cross a threshold (which I assume is a VP or related situation) where a whole lot of textures need to be loaded... this is a bottleneck. A true bottleneck. And it's a bottleneck that can be made worse or better, btw... ... Here's my general philo: Out of the box -- without obsessing -- TDM kicks T2 (&etc) in the ass. Graphics-wise. (It also does so in so, so, so many other ways!). People speak of the way T2 "lets you use your imagination" when they try and downplay this fact, this fact that OOTB, TDM murders T2... Well, I don't buy that; it's silly. But if you must go there then I'll play that too for getting 20 FPS, because, I'm telling you... I would not have taken any notice if I hadn't turned the FPS display on. Antialiasing is something that affects everything. A long established and long worked on fix for making everything look better. I'll keep it high unless I need to adjust it down. ... As I also said, I love a lot of what you've done in this mission. The big details(?) mean more to me personally.
  4. Very coincidentally... I was just coming in here to ask that rather than the Option of "Toggle Crouch" we could have both... a key to assign to hold down for crouching (which is the way I like it 99.98% of the time) AND a key to hold crouching. I hope that is clear? Anyway the reason is related to the above. I hate having to crouch down by pressing my key all the while (for one thing it drains my batteries; for another in is crampage-ing; and it's just generally annoying) while trying to read one of the unmanageable read-ables and stay in the shadows. Still hoping that the idea I'm trying to get at is clear to someone. ... Of course, if you've heard me before about read-ables: what I really want is to be able to take hold of any and all of them and read them in the real world by holding them and manipulating them as we do with other manipulate-ables.
  5. I've been to the other two places (tower and scaffolding) got 20 or 15 FPS depending on where I faced... Not great but, as I say, I wouldn't even notice had I not been looking.
  6. CPU - Q8200 @ 2.33GHRAM - 4Gb DDR2-1066 (Only using 3GB... see OS; also guessing at data-rate... at this point I've forgotten, but that seems right)Gfx - 8800 GT w/512MBRez - 1400x1050OS - XP SP3Antialiasing - 16xAnisotropy - 16xVSync - OnAmbient Rendering - EnhancedInteraction Shader - EnhancedPost Processing - EnabledObject Detail - Normal Frame Rates At start position - 20 as dropped in... 30 if I do a 180.Bottom of dirt alleyway - Not sure where this is but if it's near the beginning to the left? 10-20. Chantry scaffolding - Haven't been there yet. Builder bell tower - Haven't been there yet... which leads to: ... This thread does need some reference shots ALONG with a SPOILER tag in the title. Let people play the mission and then report back I'd think, eh? ... So those frame rates seem less than hoped for maybe, but, I never had anything to complain about with the original and if I hadn't been "looking" here I wouldn't have been bothered either. As a matter of fact, so far I've got a lot of praise that I'll drop in the proper thread when I'm finished. Starting with the wind-chimes!
  7. I might just figure this out as I go along but I might not go along right now so I'll ask in case I don't and others want to know... Are grayman's "Withdraw Weapons Fixes" (that's what I call them, grayman you know what I'm talking about if no one else does) a part of TDM officially with 1.03 or 1.04? Will Tel's "Black Light Enhancement's" work with 1.04? ... Okay answering myself: Yes, they both seem to work fine in 1.04 (I'm still not sure if the "Weapons Withdraw Fix" is official or just getting in because I have it installed myself).
  8. Funny, I was just coming n here to report that I've updated to 1.04 within the last couple of hours and was going to use it to get this... but as of 1 minute ago it doesn't show up...
  9. Well, it turns out I made a reappearance and my name is "Natalie".
  10. Cool. It's not that I refuse to join up with a faction. A couple of them might suit me in a United Front sorta way (or better). It's just that as yet I haven't enough info to decide one way or the other. Which, btw, is why I don't really like doing the things I am made to do, as it is, in-line with the story -- I know I don't like working for these petty capitalist Emeffs, the traders. Thanks again for the heads up on this stuff.
  11. Will do soon . I am updating to 1.04 now; will use it to get RTTC v2; will also use a couple of add-ins: grayman's "Withdraw Weapons Fix" (unless it's already official in? haven't investigated) and Tel's "[2011-02-21] Tels' "Black Light"... BTW, for those who don't know the FPS metric display is activated by getting to the console (should be able to do this with a Ctrl+Alt+` {left of the 1 key on most keyboards, just ask if you can't get into the console or otherwise}) and then typing "com_showFPS 1"). ...I think that's right, right?
  12. Well, it is as they say a great game with some serious flaws. It's linear. In an ugly way. Every time I try to go "the other way" it fails to deal with it in any sensible way. I know this is a very hard thing to have a game cope with -- which is why I praised ME2 so much on the point, and ME2 wasn't perfect. This game, however, is completely unable to reliably deal with anything but imagined or inconsequential deviation. Still I am glad I'm in there. It's quite horrific and bleak and all that that is also mentioned in most reviews. But I love the idea of tying a story to history, important history. It's creative/expansive too. Sure there are some cliches and the aforementioned single-minded bleakness, but it reaches well beyond that stuff at the same time. So, I'm glad I'm in there and, though disappointed as I was each of the other times I tried to get into it, I will just go ahead and follow the path laid out. Just as long as it doesn't really get narrow and I have to join a "faction" before I damn well decide to or not.
  13. Ha... And I've got a Server 2003 acting as a ~DC that I'm responsible for that needs a re-partitioning because the guys that set it up were myopic as all get-out!... I cannot just quickly redo that system; it's critical and can't stand much downtime -- if any. At least you can do as you must... just redo the damned thing from scratch if it's only a backup PC anyway. Look at is as gettinig a chance to do a spring-cleaning and maybe re-organizing the purpose and system of the system.
  14. I have made 4 points here -- all of which address the larger issue that is at work. There is something wrong with the way these underlying issues are being addressed -- TDM is clearly the best thing going in the long-lived Thief world/community, and yet it is not as correspondingly popular -- and to say (in an oh so pomo way) that any heightened effort to underline, embolden, or otherwise make prominent the solution to an ever-occurring problem is futile? Is just being argumentative. I cannot imagine that you think I'm not on your side and that I'm seriously trying to derail efforts to get at what is wrong. The 4 points I've made are legitimate. They all address this thread's intent. 1. The poll, if ever there was a poll that should be, is one should let people see who has figured out how to blackjack. 2. There is really not a problem with blackjacking -- the problem is with the old way, where you could whack a guy on the fucking ankle and it "worked"... EG: Of course it can be tricky. It should be tricky done that way. 3 & 4. I would encourage you guys to be more assertive about the solutions to "problems" (like blackjacking and CAI-SNAFU) that are not problems with TDM -- either technically or "techiniquecally"... ... Anyway I will leave it there as sometimes I get a bit abrupt (but sometimes there is a bit of the obtuse and argumentative in the discussion too, and it's not me... )
  15. You are continuing to miss the point though. I'm not asking you to fix CAI. CAI is obviously f'd up (or being f'd up by NVs deals/machinations)... what you guys need to do is make sure that this problem is something that anyone who tries TDM is made aware of as best you can... it needs to be stickied, put at the top of every wiki, readme, installer gui... It just keeps cropping up and you should reaize that for everyone that does bother to investigate by coming here to ask, there are likely many that just turn off. Same with blackjacking. There is really no problem with blackjacking, that's why you can't get a handle on "what it is"... people simply don't understand how it is meant to work. And they too turn off... You don't crack a guy on the helmet (or even the top of his skull) and expect him to be anything but pissed off. And you especially don't do it to a guy who is fully aware that you are there. Blackjacking in TDM works fine. Blackjacking in Thief was what was a joke.
  16. Yes, an exaggeration. How about this... there have only been 4 missions released (according to the official site) in the last 6 months. An exaggeration indeed -- but certainly more representative of the present trend than to say there have been "Almost 2 missions released per month".
  17. Hallelujah Thanks! despite my earlier pronouncement that I might not... of course I will give it a go; I was just making the point that I wasn't simply trying to get a FM released for my own gratific...
  18. GD it, this (along with Catalyst AI) is an obvious "problem" that needs to be addressed. I'm sure both of these things are turning many people off without much beyond a 2nd look... This poll should be one where people can see who voted what, if ever there was one that needed to be. So that people can see who knows how to blackjack and who doesn't... and then maybe feel free to ask those that do how to rid themselves of frustration. Also, the Catalyst AI thing needs to be mentioned loudly and prominently every where possible as it keeps popping up as a problem for tons of people -- these are just those that bother to bother, btw. There are some easily addressed but fundamentally spirit-killing issues here that are obviously keeping many people from enjoying TDM. There is no other explanation. TDM is great and yet the vast majority of Thief fans are not on board. God damn it... And also also... stop being so nice about T2 FMs. They are not wonderful. They are a sad waste of good building efforts! The Builder would not be pleased to see his followers clutching cludging old tools... 'Tis a shame and a shandra an abomination and anathema!
  19. But, really, this is an "of course". I hope Rttc v2 or some other mission that will feature some of the newer (even 1.03) features gets released soon... And I'm not soliciting for my own sake; I might not even play Rttc2 as I usually can't bear replaying anything even if it's enhanced or reworked or whatever... and the other mission I'm thinking of that might get released soon is one I've also already played... There's not been many missions for about a year now... so the players have nothing to keep/get them interested. No buzz. And buzz it what works best.
  20. Since we can't comment in the announcement-proper... I must say that this promises to be the Giantest Leapage yet. Thanks to all of you guys for what it includes!
  21. Yes, thanks. I had found some pushable and some unpushable, etc... crates and it is as you say. More to the point (I was wanting to get somewhere I could see that I was probably meant to be able to get to... I also found that (once again as was the case that kicked off the ME2 thing) even though I was able to set up a certain control-bind (this for low-crouch) and have it register as valid, it wasn't actually working in-game. So having fixed that I was able to get where I wanted...
  22. No. If what has been speculated is true. If that is the way it is going to be. Then I am most definitely NOT the archer... or the Th4if... or the customer. I am, at that point, The Derider.
