We need more flooring, marble floors especially. And carpet. Lots of carpet. Use original Thief games for inspiration in all cases. More to come, don't harass me yet.

    Pick! Me!

Maus, Please understand that we're not rejecting you, we're just interested in seeing some more thief style artwork, and particularly computer modeling work. You obviously have excellent artistic ability, and your sculpture is quite impressive. Meanwhile, you can show us some of your other stuff by uploading them to a free service. Not a great permanent solution, but it will work to at least show us some things. Try www.deviantart.com or www.photobucket.com to upload some images that you can then link here. (Note that you should link the images and not place them in-line on the forum page.) If you want to get your hands dirty with some quick models or concept sketches, here are a couple suggestions: Concept sketches of architecture, furniture, in game objects, and decorations. Concept sketches of level design elements; scenes containing guards and the thief, for instance, that convey the mood and setting of a level Concept sketches of characters and designs for builders, guards, pagans, zombies, or the thief. Modeling any of the above; untextured is probably fine. A textured model might be nice to view your skills at that also. Keep in mind that we're looking for an appropriate style for concept sketches. Style isn't quite as important for modeling, but it still plays a factor. If you are unfamiliar with the kinds of things we're looking for, make sure you've played through at least the first couple Thief games
  3. Use www.imageshack.us or photobucket for hosting images...that is all. But I'm encouraged muchly by your enthusiasm.
  4. None of your images seem to be showing up...

If you want to stay free, use Blender (someone wrote an exporter for D3).... You could learn Lightwave and I'm sure it's great, but I think there has been an exporter written for 3DSMax also. Not sure though...check the D3W forums.
  6. Right on, yeah I agree with all that was said. I'll try to get them to be smaller images later tonight or tomorrow, and have the images show up in the post instead of as links. Good idea! Not a problem. [uPDATE: Done.] I agree that the room is bland and I actually, honestly, kind've hate it. It looks better in-person, when standing way far away (LOL) -- actually kind've looks real. BUT (and this is a big BUT) it does lack A LOT of the dynamicism and moodiness we all know and love about Thief. Fortunately, I already realized this and won't be doing another room like that I think I did that room as almost a "study," if you will. I was using Thief 2 as a reference and was seeing how they did the panels on the wall, etc., though I know I erred on a couple things. When i look at that room though, I'm like 'borrrrring' I have a feeling the drawings will get better over time. I'm actually working on a different room scene right now that I think you might appreciate more when I'm done. There's more life and moodiness, in general, to it -- and it feels more Thief to me. I'm using PhotoShop and the coloring will be much better. Once I get a digital pen, I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more cooler things, too. Thanks for the feedback guys. Let's rock this thing!
  7. I think perhaps I'll have to pick up Blender to carry us over our lack of 3D team....that is, only one modeller. Adverts have gone on D3W, ttlg & polycount: any of you advertise on any other suitable forums too.
  8. The face sketch is here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...3&st=0#entry796 I wasn't sure whether a side view was necessary...if you'd like one just let me know.
  9. I placed a few sound samples from my keyboard over in the Art > Sound > Sound Effects/Music > "Sound Effects, Ambience, Music" thread. Please check out that post: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...=findpost&p=779
  10. Hmm, something does look familiar about it to me. Maybe it was only used in certain books or certain notes lying around? Here's the post I got it from: http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=355674
  11. Doom 3 comes packaged with the level editor in the executable. All you have to do to access it is rightclick on the Doom 3 shortcut, click on properties, and add "com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor" in the target box after the quotation marks. But if you mean how we've made all the test maps, well...we've got lots of stuff down in the (currently?) hidden sections of the forums that go through it all step by step. It's a long process that'll probably bore the hell out of everyone not interested in the technical side of the mod. And yeah, the SDK will be free. As for the Garrett model...I think DeepOmega has been doing it in 3DSMax, not too sure though.
  12. Hello, I offered my help on the coding side on the old forums. Until the SDK comes out, a lot of the stuff I'd like to get started on will have to wait. As a result, I was only periodically checking the old boards, and only just now saw the message regarding this move. I'm still more than willing to offer my help on the coding side. I'm mostly interested in helping with AI, and movement code (Mantling, run/walk/sneak/crouch modifications). I'm also willing to help anywhere else that requires it. Even Art. Sorry for not posting anything for a while, but until the SDK comes out, a large number of things are simply speculation at this point. -oofnish

    Hello!

Hi there guys! This is Jim from DoomCast.com. I've been talking to Fingernail and offered him hosting and some space on our forums! Just wanted to say hello and meet the people who are going to bring out this awsome thief mod! I still remember the first time I played thief, lol, getting chased around the first manor and scrambling up a rope to hide hahaha Hopefully this mod turns out great! Anyway, gtg Jim Doomcast
  14. I'm not a part of the Dark Mod team actually, I can't code, do models or textures anyway. Kinda dedicated to Black Cat Games aswell... I'm just hosting the forums for Fingernail and the crew.
  15. great work man I hope I get D3 tomorrow in the computer store, where I buy my new computer components. If everything works fine I'll be able to play D3 on highest-details in 2 days BTW: as soon as you've got your ceiling we should post this screen in the ttlg-forums, I think people will be really impressed.
  16. There's nothing wrong with the window, looks perfectly thiefy to me. A moon? Never! No time to modify. Springwheel's stuff's perfect anyway. (Runs away with the artwork to the Imperium forums.)

    I Want To Help

Arg. Sorry forgot to include contact info. God_is_my_goldfish@yahoo.com Or PM me in ttlg or ionstorm forums.
  18. While the art is undeniably excellent, the style isn't very Thieflike. Like everyone else has said, it needs alot more blue... lol, what I find really amazing is that the guy was able to draw this up pratically in his spare time while I fumbled around with preexisting images for hours on end. I really need to learn to draw.
  19. Since we started with this project I haven't heard anything about which license we will use. This is IMO quite an important decisision, as some memebrs may not want to use one license modell while others may and still others don't care. As we have seen in the case SCO against IBM this issue is NOT so trivial and can potentially affect everybody here. This is also important to protect our project against copyright claims or others ripping off. So I would suggest to discuss this BEFORE we start to create to much content and afterwards being dissatisfied with the decisions. One question: If we code for D3 what resctrictions are there for our mod? As with DromEd we had the restriction that all FMs had to be free and were not allowed to be commercially used without permission. I expect that a similar restriction exists for D3 mods (but then again it may not) so this already might affect the decision on which license model we can use. There are also other considerations, because if we choose i.E. GPL or any other open source compatible license model (there are several of them) we can register for services like webhosting, shell accounts, CVS services and others, which may not be available for closed source developments. I think it is better to use such existing services instead of relaing on private resources, because this gives us a major advantage. If there ever is a break in the private resources we will have to find new resources where to translocate them. If we use public resources, everybody has access and we don't need to worry over uptime or accessability or support. That doesn't mean that we can NOT use private resources as well, but it gives us many advantages for free and serves as a seamless backup. If this is comptable with D3 restrictions therfore I would suggest to use GPL/LGPL or a similar license model and I think there is also an Open Content license for art so we could put this there as well. Since this is a community project and we want to use community resources as well, I think this would be a fair decision. One reason why I also want to have this clarified is, to protect our work (I already have seen such a thing happen). If i.E. somebody writes a good AI code and suddenly decides that the code is so good that he no longer wants to offer it for free, then we are screwed. In this case we woould have to start from scratch and rewrite all this code from new. I don't want something like this to happen, so we really should decide an a license early on, so everybody knows what he can expect or not expect from the project. Of course this is also true for art (images, sound, models, levels, etc.), despite me writing mainly about code because I'm a programmer myself.
  20. We need the following boards: A general discussion board Design issues Development related discussions (not programing but in general) Programming (general) AI Sound (programming) Soundeffects (for the soundengineers) Special Effects (Water, particle etc.) Art (Textures, images, etc.) Level creation/Plot/Objectives (for the level designers) Modelling (Characters) We DON't need a seperate Lightgem board. It's either art or programming. What would be a good idea is to have a read-only report board. This should contain: Design decisions (no discussions only the conclusions from the design discussions when we agree on something), Allowed tools (or list of tools so we know what is available), A list of available services (like FTP, Webpage, IRC information, CVS server information, etc.). This board can also get links to concept Art for easy reference as soon as we agreed on something and we don't want to change it anymore. So for example, if we agree on a final image for the lightgem, we should post it there so everybody can see it and can easily find it. Another read-only board would be good as announcment board: This should include who is working on what, if a new release has been released, weekly(?) project progress, new members and other stuff which is not open for discussion.
  21. A cool tutorial from the D3W forums about creating new creature models. http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5133
  22. I've made you an administrator now, Fingernail. Set up the forums how you want it.
  23. Since when was Object making not under Art? Yes, more art forums: Objects Concept Art Characters Textures and another forum for levels/test screenshots.
  24. I won't be avalible this weekend, just so you know. We can make the arrangements to the forums next week, before we open it to the public.
