That is just so S.M.R.T.

Don't even know what to say here. A 'system' being called S.M.A.R.T. which basically amounts to mantling and crouching. It also appears to be a dumbed-down version, because they keep mentioning the 'smart' button (not buttons) so I guess it's an all-in-one. Recall how well unified ammo went over in DE3.

Dumbed down and old ideas, sold as features. Throw in some charming fellows and a (probably fake, or else they're going to run out of budget) high tech development setting, and you're ready to ship!

Well, I guess it's new to shooters? Next they'll invent varying AI awareness levels and frobbing.

Edit: bit hostile? Perhaps, but it's like, "pssst hey guys, we've been doing that for years."

If you do a video of your game, remember to care for the new hyperactive "ohh look shiny" generation, which means you should never - heh see this over there - have more than 2 seconds of consecutive what was that? nevermind footage of - lets retweeterage this to facebook - anything. Remember to switch perspective, color or background and sound every second, too. And even if it is in game footage, switch after 0.5 seconds to some completely different footage...

I got sick of watching it after the first half, but continued thinking "maybe" the really have some great technical stuff underneath it and start explaining it Real Soon Now[tm] - but all that is going on and on and on is a few developers getting orgasms describing their brand-new "one-button" control scheme...

...it's about moving and shooting...

 You mean like almost every shooting game ever made?

The thing I hate about modern shooters like this is the nerfing of the weaponry. One of the best FPS I've ever played had to of been The Specialists Mod for Halflife1. Simply because the movements made sense, the guns shot where you point them and the guns had real power, a pistol would easily rival rifles. Now in shooters there's this stupid way of spreading the accuracy of the guns to ridiculous levels so you never hit where you aim (Counter Strike), balancing weapons in a way that makes no sense (IE: COD BC2) and having people require dozens of shots to go down. (Most games :P )

It amazes me how no one's picked up on how to make a honestly good basic shooter lately.

Yes it's an amalgamation of crouching, jumping, mantling and sliding. And yes those things are not new to the FPS genre. But it is different and I think that counts for something. I applaud them for taking a risk instead of sticking by tried and true methods even if the aim all along was just to reduce the button count so the game would play well on a console.

Similar things were done with the combat system in Mount and Blade. That name might sound familiar because it was the inspiration for the system implemented in TDM. How is this any different? You have one button that does different things depending on what you last did with the mouse.

Reducing the volume of user input required to achieve a given goal can't be universally bad. Obviously in some cases it's a good thing. I won't knock it till I've tried it.

Did I miss the epilepsy warning? The cuts were so fast and strobe-like it was almost nauseating.

Anyway, the best thing with these hypes is that if you have the patience, you can lean back and wait relaxed how the game really turns out in the end. Think Daiakatana here. Or ET:QW. Or so many other hyped up games that never even came close to justify their praise.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
