Just a question.

Hello, I'm new here. :)

I just found your mod and I can't wait to play it, but I have a question :

If I'm going to install this mod, is your mod going to affect my original game?

Thanks!

Well, it installs into you d3 folder as a mod of d3. It will not prevent you from playing d3 later. It is not likely you're gonna play d3 anyway after you get into tdm. ;)

Hi, and welcome! I have been able to play Doom3 after I installed the mod - so the answer is 'yes'. :)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Yes, more specifically you run Dark Mod from a different shortcut. Your original Doom shortcut still runs the Doom game.

BTW it's helpful to put meaningful titles like "Can I still run Doom3 if I install Dark Mod?" so it's easier to manage and search otherwise we'd have hundreds of topics like "a question" ;)

Also "quick question" is the funniest when the answer might not be, eg, "how can we end wars and world famine and find the meaning of life and get lots of sex and money not necessarily in that order?"

Welcome to Dark Mod. Enjoy! :)

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
