Forum organization ideas

Recommended Posts

OK, here's a temporary thread for some ideas on how to organize the forum here. I know these things can get out of control, so we want to somewhat limit the number of threads we use (or not?). Anyway, here's some thread ideas:

1. Introduction for team (got this already)

2. Progress threads, one per mission - thought this might be a good way to do updates, each team member can keep the other up-to-date on their progress, show off screenshots if they want, that kind of thing.

3. One thread dedicated only to plot and story for the campaign.

4. One thread for building tips and advise, strictly technical and dark radiant related. No real detailed info about the campaign here.

5. One thread to discuss custom material for the campaign, whether its textures, models, briefing ideas, or anything else.

That's all I can think of for now. More later...

These sound great to start with. I think the next stop should be a story/plot thread so we can coordinate our missions, delegate order and deal with common themes, etc.

I'll wait for you to start it, though. :)

canetoad and i used the java chatroom he set up last night, and we agreed that regarding plans for story / plot and how they will be integrated into each persons FM and the sequence of FM's in the campaign, it would be a great idea to try to plan out a brainstorming chat session all together. We've still got a few people missing yet that haven't checked in yet though. the time differences might make it impossible to get everyone simultaneously, but take what you can get.

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
