Caps-Lock Lock

How many of you always get pissed off by accidentally pressing caps-lock some time, and then not realize until later when you type a bunch of text only to look up at the screen and see you have to type it all over again?

I have popped the Caps-Lock key off of all of my keayboards for the last several years, in favor of simply holding down Shift when I need several capital letters in a row.

How about if keyboard manufacturers were to put in a simple plastic slider, which would slide to the right underneath the Caps-Lock key to prevent it from being pressed? Then simply slide it left again to "unlock" the key so you could use it.

Would any of you seek out a keyboard which had this feature if they were on the market?

I can't really type without looking at the screen anymore. God forbid I write some C++ code and accidently use a square bracket instead of a curly bracket. :o GASP!

On the other hand, I do remember an old Mac Classic keyboard where the Caps lock was actually a toggle switch; It recessed itself into the keyboard when on, and popped back up when Caps lock was off.

I remember those. The key was split-level and pushed a little sideways, was it not?

You can always use the on-screen keyboard

Hmmm... not sure I have an on-screen keyboard. I think it is in accessibility packages, but not sure.

Anyways, I'm sure that was a jape ;) I can't even imagine playing TDM while trying to click on an on-screen keyboard for my controls. Though it does paint a funny picture.

Anyway, what I hope to have is the ability of not being able to press it at all at the flick/slide of a switch. I suppose I could find something easily removable to wedge the key with.

It's more of a software issue than a hardware issue IMO. In Linux it is trivial to configure the CAPS LOCK key to do something else. Mine is an extra ESC key which is really useful in the Vim editor.

Perhaps there is some Windows freeware available which allows you to do the same thing, but I haven't checked.

I do use it on occasion. I was just saying it would be nice to have a hardware switch to temporarily lock it in the up position when people play games, write code, etc.

Maybe KDE has a KB management applet for Plasma desktop/tray which could easily switch between key layouts... other than language/localization.

The idea of popping the caps-lock key off the keyboard made me laugh. I've heard of people doing that to the Windows key when they accidentally hit it playing Quake back in the old days. I very rarely use my caps-lock key accidentally or otherwise.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
