What's your graphics card? Is this a desktop card? Every video card has a maximum resolution it can do maybe yours just can't.

For example the mobility Radeon 5870 is limited to:

  • Integrated dual-link DVI output with HDCP11
    • Max resolution: 2560x160012

    [*]Integrated DisplayPort output

    • Max resolution: 2560x160012

[*]Integrated HDMI 1.3 output with Deep Color, xvYCC wide gamut support, and high bit-rate audio

    • Max resolution: 1920x120012

    [*]Integrated VGA output

    • Max resolution: 2048x153612

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

I have a GTX480 which isnt know for playing nice in this regard, I used to have a 5870 which as you know support eyefinity (check out my tri-screen video on youtube) - in fact I am tempted to borrow it back so I have make a full HD version. Anyway back on track, my 480 dosent want to play any games dual-screen, which is fair enough as there is a big bezel right in the middle of my view.

The only way I would be able to get tri-monitor working via nVidia is to upgrade to a GTX 6 series, or the dubious route of trying "SoftTH"

Or going the third route, which is buying another Nvidia card and using SLI.

Technically I have the space and PSU capacity to run 2x 480s, but that would mean buying a new pci-e sound card as the current is PCI and the 2nd would block that slot. I've never been a fan of multi gpu setups because ATi/nVidia have to date never managed to get the to work reliably enough to my satisfaction. And then we have the heat pumped out and the powers useage of 2x 480's, a single 670 would be about 1.5-2.0x of a single 480 but put out 1/3 less heat and use 90W less power - Techpowerup. If I sell an old laptop I have to a buddy thats 2/3 the cash for a 670, I could then punt my 480 with its tri-fan cooler to make up the difference.

Yep, a 670 or even a 660ti is pretty good value for the money, hell I'd get a 670 if I actually needed the extra horsepower in more than 2-3 games...

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, my GTX670 turned up today and Ive got all 3 screen hooked up but again TDM just wont play ball.Ive setup a single surround resolution of 5040x1050 via the nV control panel and TDM dosent list the res and forcing via the wiki artcle dosent work either. Can someone help me this as I know its works as I had TDM running on my old 5870 ages ago.

That said I found this entry on the WSGF.rg website - http://www.wsgf.org/dr/doom-3

In the meantime I found this new app call "flawless widescreen", Im going to join the forum to see if a dev over there can create a plugin for our mod.

I assume you've tried setting

r_mode -1

r_customHeight X

r_customWidth Y

in your autoexec.cfg? That's all I did to get mine working.

That's weird, the mode -1 is supposed to set it to nonstandard aspect ratio... well, that's about as much help as I can be :(

r_mode -1 just means to use the custom height and width only.

You can still set the aspect ratio to one of the three available modes: seta r_aspect 0,1,2 (4:3, 16:9, 16:10). Try setting a custom resolution that falls into one of those apects and see where it gets you. IE set the vertical resolution to the vertical res of your main screen then use probably 16:9 ratio to get the maximum horizontal res.

Exceeding one of the available or set aspect ratios will probably just give you a black screen or crash.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
