Arrows and Pagan Head

Recommended Posts

I'm testing AI reactions to finding dead and unconscious bodies.

As part of the test, I walk up behind one of the new Pagans and put an arrow in the back of his head.

Most of the time, it sails right through w/o hurting him.

Wassup with this?

Is the collision model correct for the new Pagan? He seems taller.

Or were there changes to arrow shooting and accuracy?

I've confirmed this...if you shoot the area right near the middle of the back of his head, it goes right through. To either side or closer to the top of the head, it works normally. I have no idea why. I've never seen that before, and there's nothing noticeably odd about the model.

I can confirm that this also happens with some other versions of the head_08 model. The head_08_pagan and head_08_commoner_bare both have the problem. The version that has an extra hair layer does not seem to have the problem.

What's the command to show bounding boxes again?

g_showactiveentities 1

Hmm, that doesn't help...it doesn't show any of the heads as having bounding boxes.

I tried g_showCollisionModels, which shows the head cms, but that didn't reveal anything out of the ordinary either. Well, I can probably hack something together to stop it from happening, but I'd love to know what's causing it.

Well, my hacky solution gives the appearance of working for the base head_08, but the exact same solution does nothing for the pagan head_08, which is identical in virtually every way. wtf? This makes no sense at all.

The .cm file of the map? That wouldn't have any affect on md5meshes inside the map, would it?

I've narrowed down a few things. It has nothing to do with the texture. Spinning the head mesh around so the back of the head faces forward, I was able to reproduce the behaviour from the FRONT of the AI. This suggests the issue does actually have to do with that part of the mesh. I just have no idea what the issue is. But at least I know exactly what to tinker with.

Still have no idea as to the cause, but I've managed to hack together something that seems to solve it.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
