Picking a lock in a chest

I don't know if this is something a mapper sets or it is a TDS default but lock picking a chest can be done from any position as long as you are close enough to the chest

I really noticed it with this chest in Trapped where you can pick the lock from here

Should the lock picking area only be in front of the lock for realism

If this is in the wrong place please move it

Perhaps, but for gameplay purposes, and to support existing maps, we need to keep it the way it is. Some chests might only be pickable from places other than the front. Also, frobbing on the chest lid instead of something on the front of the chest is how it's set up. Many chests have nothing other than the lid, with no visible lock mechanism, like the little arms that move when lockpicking.

Technically speaking, you don't need to be straight in front of a lock to pick it IRL. With a chest, I imagine that as long as you can access the keyway with your tension tools, picks, skeleton keys, etc. I don't think getting it open from a different angle should be a problem, especially since picking is done mostly by feel. I suppose the logical conclusion a player might draw from a typical scenario is that the player character is reaching out and maybe around the chest to fiddle with the mechanism, even if we as players can't see the PC's arms in action.

On the other hand, if you've got a 10-foot frob distance on your picks, you've got a problem, so I guess the real issue for me would be distance over direction.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
