Weapons and mattress

Spring, you showed this screenshots of the weaponry. Did you already put it on SVN, or is this still your private copy? I was looking for them and didn't find them.

Also I wanted to ask you if you can create an additional skin for the mattress. Currently the one available is pretty clean and more for the richer beds, but it would be great to have at least on dirty skin, suitable for a dungeon scenario, and maybe one where patches of straw can bee seen through, suitable for poor huts or such.

All the weapon stuff should be on SVN, unless I forgot a file or two.

Which mattress are you referring to? The one without a bed?

Where can I find it? I was looking under darkmod models and assumed that there would be a weapons folder, but there was none and I didn't find them anywhere.

Yes. I can look up the material name if you need it, but there was only one anyway.

Thanks. Why are they not under darkmod?

Apparently we'd have to change a bunch of weapon code to do that. Personally I think it would be better if they weren't mixed in with the D3 weapons, but I don't know what's involved.

BTW: Just noticed. handaxe.lwo has a clean handle and the skin weapons-old_rusty benaeth it has exactl the same look. Same for battleaxe.

Not quite sure what you mean, but some of the weapon skins just change the metal, but not the handle, and vice versa. The old_rusty skin should change both the handle and the blade though; are you saying that's not happening?

I would appreciate it. We should keep all darkmod specific stuff under darkmod. I didn't find the weapons at home, because I never thought to look under the Doom 3 assets, and here on my office machine I immediately saw them, because I don't have Doom 3 installed here.

Yes. When I click in DR on the battleaxe and then on the old_rusty skin, they look exactly the same. No difference. Usually when there is only a small difference, it becomes easier to spot when I repeatedly click back and forth between them, but this doesn't make any difference. To me it looks as if they are exactly the same.

Hmm, strange. It works on my end, and I've uploaded all the relevant files.

Does the old_rusty skin work for the other weapons?

The axe looks exactly the same, and I'm sure the same is true for the other one. Maybe you didn't include a neccessary file?

I'll check again. The skin and material files are up to date, so it could only be textures--but that skins uses a default rust texture for the blade, so that should be working regardless. Hmm.

edit: Ok, I found one file that wasn't updated, see if that fixed it.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
