Fireplace "innards" model

Tels

Recommended Posts

If one of the modellers has some free time, I'd like to have new two models:

* one that looks roughly like the ash-bed of a burning/burnt fire (can be skinned), e.g. a almost flat bowel, with spreading ash and maybe transparent edges

* a smaller ash pile, that can be put into the fire to make the first ash bed more versatile and different

* a bigger ash pile

* one that looks like burning logs, criss-crossed, half-burnt, some bits glowing red (can be skinned to be made "put out")

Currently, the fireplaces always look way too clean, with neatly stacked logs, no ash and no residue etc. :)

Can supply some photos for reference and textures, but I can't actually create models. So, if someone is bored, go hacking :D

Have you checked the campfire models? There are two like this.

There is a prefab firegrate I've done might be of use @ prefabs/architecture/fireplaces. I've also done a crumble ash decal. I thought I'd included that in the prefab. Here is the prefab in situ in my map and on the next post is the model firegrate with the same ash. I'll check around for the info I did on setting up these crumble heaps but basically they do not tile so you have to set them up to just fit the patch and the patch should be square so it does not stretch the texture...

Thanx, these prefabs sound very useful. I guess we also have a "dirty fireplace" skin now, so the "clean brickwall" can also be changed? I have a go and try to update my fireplace in my mill map then :)

      Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

      I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

      briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
      What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
      I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

      Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
