Diego's Thug Updated

I've been working on updating Diego's old Thug character. The old version really did not meet the bar set by Oddity's models, but I know people like the character (and it was used in Thief's Den) so I wanted to see if I could make a usable version.

I replaced the worst part of the mesh with parts from Odd's models, and updated all the textures. There wasn't a high-poly normalmap, but I did my best to create one using bits and pieces from other characters. I think he looks pretty decent now, though there are still a few areas that could use tweaking.

You can see the old and new versions below.

I've been wrestling with what to call this guy. Originally I had named the fat guy "thug" and was going to call this guy the "cutthroat", since he had better equipment and looks a bit more like a combatant.

Now I'm wondering if I should call this guy the "Thug" and rename the fat guy to something like "brute" or "bully", to suggest that he has nothing going for him but his size.

Well, just thug is a good general name for it.

Yes, he's using one of the new heads. I don't think the old one is salvagable...it has a weak normalmap and is entirely hand-drawn.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.
