Second instance of DarkRadiant is incredibly slow...

Recommended Posts

I used to be able to have multiple instances of DR open at a time and each would perform as normal.

Today I wanted to finally copy over my waterfall from another map, so I had DR already open with my Noble Cave map, so I opened a new instance of DR to open the other map. The new instance runs incredibly slow, and right clicking on any of the viewports takes over 5 seconds to bring up the menu.

This is even before I opened the map.

I went back to the original DR window and it's running fine, no performance loss at all. I switch over to the second instance, and it's really slow.

For example; I drew out a small brush in the Top viewport, and the brush first shows up in the bottom right viewport, then draws in the bottom left viewport, then the Top viewport, then finally in the Render viewport. This process takes over 7 seconds. But the first instance of DR is running fast.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

I had similar issues on Windows XP when having DarkRadiant and Doom 3 running at the same time, with large maps in the works. I think it's related to video memory usage, when this reaches a certain value, the graphics on both ends will become terribly slow (you can watch the raster being drawn line by line). I don't think there's much I can do about it, it feels more like a driver/vram issue than a bug.

Oh that's always been slow, I always close DR when using Doom 3, I mean just having 2 instances of DR open at the same time and nothing else. The first instance is fast, the second is slow no matter what.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
