LCD specifications for Dark Mod

Hi, Not wanting to spend too much ~ 160.00

I've been focusing in my LCD searches on the response time: is 5 msec good enough? I would prefer 2 msec, but my choices are much fewer.

I also pay attetion to Pixel Pitch being less than 0.3mm

Any other important specifications I should be aware of?

Your experience with LCD and Darkmod viewing?

THANKS!

M

Back-light and colour are the two big things you will be looking for, since you arnt spending much you cant go for a nice IPS panel, but I would suggest always looking for pictures of the back-light in action. In dark games like TDM it is really quite bad when you have a washed out black that is quite grey. 5ms is more than acceptable for gaming, you really wont notice it anyway as most of the time, since things like blue are about 3x slower than grey to grey, they are much more noticeable - and since the only measurement is g2g its not really a concern imho.

So yeah, colour/black levels and back-light have to be the most important thing to me.

I've had my eye on this Dell for a while now as it is should be good for Thief (see this thread at TTLG for more info). The price has gone up in the past year, but the silver version is £182 ex VAT (£20 less than black) which I think is worth it if it means I can play TDM without bobbing my head up and down like I do with my current TFT (to avoid the glare / washed out black you get at various angles).

This monitor uses e-IPS by the way, which is far superior to the cheaper run of the mill TFTs that come with PC bundles.

We've actually got one upstairs, I thought they would be more than that over there - but its a got great colour and a pretty good backlight uniformity and no colour pixel lag at all (like the 2ms samsung/lg etc TN panels). A very nice price :)

if you do a search on the ttlg.com forums for LCD and my name ' bikerdude ' and you will find a couple of very in-depth reviews of monitors.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
