Pain transfer

I'm on team 0.

 

AI "Martin" is on team 2.

 

AI "Lewis" is on team 0.

 

Martin sees me and gives chase.

 

We encounter Lewis and I stop running.

 

Martin catches up and starts whacking me with his sword. Lots of pain and red flashes.

 

Since I owe Lewis money, he gets mad at this, yanks out his sword, and starts pummeling Martin from behind.

 

Martin doesn't respond to Lewis; he just continues to pound me.

 

However, the pain that I would normally be receiving is transferred to Lewis, probably because Lewis is registered with Martin as an attacker. I'm receiving no pain and no red flashes. Martin does NOT turn around to battle Lewis, but continues to flail away at me.

 

Lewis reaches his flee threshold before Martin, and he turns and runs away. (A fair-weather friend, I guess.)

 

Martin continues to whack at me. The pain and red returns, and I die.

 

So the bug here is most likely that Martin did not turn toward Lewis to engage him, though his sword swings are inflicting pain on Lewis.

 

Worthy of a bug report?

as far as i experienced, AI fighting each other is - at the moment - a fail as a WHOLE:

 

obviously, they cant HEAR each other, so even at a distance of 1 foot, they f.e. wont hear other AIs talking.

they also have big problems SEEING other AIs. even in situations, where the player would surely be spotet immediatelly or at least after a short time, they sometimes need hours to start engaging hostile AIs. beside that, AIs seem to have problems with hunting fleeing AIs too, they sometimes do not really start HUNTING, while sometimes they do.

 

as is said, these were MY experiences. if seen these problems in NHAT 3/3 (undead vs. guards) and also in self-made testing-maps. i think, this will need some work in the future ?!

Another issue in that neighborhood is when a group of enemy AI start whacking at you and start inadvertently hitting (and killing) each other (their team-members) because of the proximity, never stopping their whacking at you to deal with each other.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
