  1. We seem to have just flown by the 10th anniversary of TDM's 1.0 public release, which was on Oct. 18, 2009. I didn't see any threads on it (were there any I missed?), and now it's like 2 weeks past. But it feels like it's important enough that it's worth acknowledging anyway. So, Happy 10th Birthday TDM! Here's to 10 more of our favorite game in the shadows. Huzzah! o/"

  2. Thank you Bienie! Honored for your attention! I really loved your recent stuff! COS 2 was amazing work! Loved the rat hunting, always thought that would be a fun thing to do as a goal. Sorry, just had all these homes left over at the end and started putting them into wards that were left according to the quality of the homes. Thought that both Brooksdale and Cliften Grove were places that could be supporting communities. Aw, taff! I totally skipped over Langmillers ward somehow. Feel bad about that because Crucible of Omens is an amazing level. It seemed pretty big in the time you were outside, you think it would be fair if I took about 2/3 from Brooksdale/Clifton and shifted them into Langmillers? If I missed any others I would not mind if someone will let me know. I was mostly intent on gathering names that represented large parts of town, there were mods where I thought about using a name given, but most of the times the name would only apply to a street or a square with a dozen or so shops around it. Both Stone market and Old quarter are from thief. I had that thought when seeing the names pop up in the mods I played. As for the world map,I feel it would be easier to achieve that goal once I have a solid foundation of Bridgeport and surrounding county. Got a screencap of the maps that have shown up in all levels, I plan to trace over it and make a blank template, maybe post it in that thread about the world with a list of all the names that appear on it. Thank you again for both the post, but mostly the levels you have made.

  3. I guess there emscripten supports OpenGL-to-WebGL translation. But the OpenGL currently used in TDM is surely wider than a "subset of GLES 3". Moreover, WebGL does not support some of the features used right now. Clearly, all the window system integration, threading, and probably many more has to be rewritten in order to make it work. To be honest, I personally dislike the trend of putting everything into the browser. Doing so to hardcore games is the worst idea I ever heard.

  4. Of course. I wanted to touch upon Spanish Islamic and Moorish architecture too, but it felt like I'd be stretching the topic too much, so I focused on Africa only. As someone who's worked on developing a believable, historically-inspired fantasy Africa for a certain RPG project of mine, I have a bit of a soft spot for this topic. Concerning Spanish Islamic architecture from Andalusia, Cordoba, etc., there is a vast wealth of inspiration there, and is well worth looking into. All the more that even religious architecture had often carried on with a blending of styles even after certain churches became mosques, then churches again, and so on and so forth. A blending of medieval Christian church architecture and Islamic religious architecture can create really unique, one-of-a-kind, fancy-but-humble interiors. Andalusian architecture had some splendid public buildings and urban planning too.

  5. Wow, I'm staggered at the amount of research that's been put in. The amount of passion this community has is truly phenomenal. Just to add some more fuel to the fire, I believe this collection of short stories could provide some more ideas around concept, if we were to go with a much darker theme than say a Prince of Persia: https://www.amazon.com/Tales-Alhazred-Donald-Tyson-ebook/dp/B01LXPANK1/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=tales+of+alhazred&qid=1572849560&sr=8-1 I also feel that Andalusian architecture could provide a happy balance between European and Middle Eastern. Anyways, this is turning into a very interesting discussion!

  6. I'd be happy to offer live fixed-IP 24 hour mirror space on my server for mission hosting if needed, which has Crashplan cloud backup already running.

  7. I have created this software, in case you wanted to mention it in the website. Before that making the game available in a Linux software center was a major pain. On Arch Linux for example the game was broken for years because nobody really knew how to fix its packaging. But now this software builds in one clic the file system of the game, so a person only needs to provide that as it is inside a package for making the game available to any Linux operating system. Then one single installation serves all users in the system, and the game is updated using the software center itself. This software will handle gracefully and automatically mostly any new release of the game. And it will even be resilient to transient internet disconnections, where by the way the current updater just hangs forever.
