Projected shadows

Ok, here's the last remaining thing standing in the way of simulated soft shadows on lights. For some reason that is unfathomable to me, these shadow lights cannot be triggered on and off. I couldn't get them to turn off with the regular flame, so I tried just making a simple light with a shadow texture, targetting it with a button, and then turning the button on and off. It did nothing. Once the light is added, it cannot be turned off for some reason.

If the shadow can't be turned off along with the regular light, the projected shadow simply won't be feasible. I assume it is related to something about blendlights?

I see that blendLights have their own boolean in the script reference (isBlendLight), I wonder if that type of check is

part of the extinguish code? If so, it's probably only checking for lights and not fogLight or blendLight.

Have you tried toggling the shadow via a script?

I've never used shadowlights either so all this is 1st draft experiment stuff.

It seems most of the light script events have no effect on a shadowlight, so the normal scriptobject for moveable lights won't work. You'll likely need a custom script object.

The script events I just tried in quick succession that don't work are:

Off(); // this is the normal one used by moveable light entities

noShadows(1);

activate($player1);

fadeOutLight(0.1);

What did work is the setShader() script event. If you setShader to "", the shadow vanishes. If you set it back to "lights/shadows/shadow_circle_02" or whatever, the shadow reappears.

So it'll possible to use an adapted script object for your new entity. I'll happily fix that if you want, and if no-one has a more obvious solution.

Don't let me pull you away from 2.02 stuff, but that would be great when you have time. :)

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
