Simple DarkRadiant question

There is that C++ redistributable file thingy that you have to install, but that's it - it's nothing to do with actually coding anything in C++ yourself - just something that has to be on your system for DarkRadiant to run.

Thanks for the great answers.. better than I had hoped.. There may be hope for me yet..

I have tried stuff like FPS Creator X10 and wasn't impressed.

I have played with Unity 3D 2.5 which is an awesome engine, and you 'can' make games without scripting but its recommended you know scripting so they won't appear too bland... Some commercial games have used Unity 3D.. check it out if you haven't.. for a hundred bucks you have a good engine for Indy development that is royalty free.. you can release your games as you like. But it got kinda involved for me as a lot of things are really hard to do if you don't know C++.

Always wanted to make my own game.. I just need to find the right tools that's good for me.

It sounds like you actually want to design and build your own game, in which case you might not find DarkRadiant is what you need.

DarkRadiant is for designing missions to be played in the Dark Mod. There is plenty of scope for creativity with scripting etc, but it is not fundamentally designing a game (the mechanics and behaviour are coded in the Mod itself).

I dont totally agree, well its true what you make is a mod for a mod,but the toolset provided is quite good to achieve adventure, platform,or an action game as well with ease, as long as the assets , and settings are fine with the maker. Could even imagine maps designed for speedrun, with the fantastic movementcontrol over the character it would be more than fun!

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
