I went ahead and made an awfully german accented and "grammared" video tutorial for mapping starters. I don't know if this is helpful but I somehow missed a comprehensive vid tutorial for complete beginners, showing how to make a map from start to finish.

Just a small nit pick - Regarding the ambient_world light - what you have created isnt exactly right. We already have an 'ambient_world' light entity. Right click in ortho, select - create entity>lights>atdm:ambient_world
