  1. These instructions are pretty good, but if you have questions feel free to ask again. http://www.thedarkmo...wnload-the-mod/ The instructions in the link tell you to make a folder called: darkmod, and put it in this folder: C:\Games\Doom3, but I found mine in: Computer\C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3. If you bought Doom 3 from Steam, I imagine that your file path will be similar to mine. Once you've downloaded the file tdm_update_win, drag it from your downloads folder and drop it into the darkmod folder that you created inside of the Doom 3 folder. If I remember correctly all you have to do now is double click tdm_update_win and The Dark Mod will start downloading into your darkmod folder. I prefer to make shortcuts of my darkmod folder and TheDarkMod.exe. then drag and drop them to my desktop.
  2. I bought Doom 3 and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (I just checked my Steam library to verify.) and I have had no problems running TDM. The install is super easy too! Also don't worry about asking away; like I said the community is awesome.
  3. 3 different characters/objective lists! Loot and enemies/innocents being in different spots in each play-through is something that I've always wanted!!(I hope this becomes common practice for future levels.) I'm so excited for this!!!
  4. I bought Doom 3 specifically for The Dark Mod. I got it for $9.99, but I would have gladly paid $59.99 in order to play TDM! Personally I wouldn't wait for 2.0 to come out to start playing this game. To me it is the best game in existence, bar none! The developers, fan mission creators and the TDM community are awesome too!
  5. In remembrance of him was a good level. but I'm not really complaining. After watching a few videos on how to make a TDM level I realize it's a lot of work to make a level. Very nice work RPGista.
  6. Well this level lived up to the hype for me! The level layout was great. The use of ambient noise was spot on. The difficulty wasn't too easy or too hard. I don't think that I've played any other levels by Melan yet, but I definitely look forward to them. Thanks for the great level Melan!

    Thanks demagogue.
  8. I don't know how to do the "spoiler [show]" thing, so just know that my review will probably have Spoilers. Actually, so I don't have to say this everytime, would someone please teach me how? Although I do enjoy undead based missions a fair bit, they are not my favorite kinds of missions. I prefer sneaking through cities, castles and manors and dealing with living humans the most. That being said, I still really enjoyed Glenham Tower. The choice of ambient sounds was nice. I really enjoyed this level. I have played a few other levels by you, Sotha. I have not reviewed them yet, but I will. You are a very good level maker. I have beaten about 15 TDM levels now, and I realize that I need to let the level makers (and not just the mod developers) know that I am grateful to them for supplying me with hours of great fun. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Okay, Thanks Stumpy and Obsttorte. Stumpy, I am familiar with unzipping pk4 files and editing them in Dark Radiant. I removed some "Do Not Kill" parameters from a few levels. How do I find the key in Dark Radiant? Is there a menu that will show me all the special Items in that level, or do I scroll around the map looking for its physical location? Obsttorte, I might try asking if all else fails.

Is there a command for spawning items specific to a certain quest like a key? I tried "spawn atdm:playertools" then pressing tab to cycle through, in hopes of finding quest items that I just cannot find.
  11. The sound effect of opening a chest or a jewelry case sounds like a door opening. You'd think I'd be used to it after hours of playing, but I often hurry and look at the nearest door for guards after opening chests and jewel cases. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice if they could have a different sound effect someday. (Not sure that this is the best place to post this.)
  12. That's good advice. I actually think that the game is more intense and more fun when you just sneak around the guards instead of neutralizing them. This new feature will "incentivize" this approach when carpet and moss arrows are not available.
  13. Yeah, I should probably just practice rather than ask for an easier way. I've never been a hardcore gamer when it comes to difficulty, but I don't like things too easy either.
  14. I practiced trying to knock a guard out and catch him using AluminumHaste's advice and I was still only able to do it 3 times in twenty minutes. So I ask the developers: Do you want the game this hardcore, or would you be open to allowing bodies to be highlighted for catching as soon as they are knocked out/killed? Also, will it be possible set a body down on the ground quietly while crouched or will we need to drop them far away from other guards?
  15. Okay, thanks! Now I'm really impressed with your skills!!
  16. Does anyone have any tips on how to catch a body before it falls!? I have tried at least 40 times. (Poor one-eyed Byron.) AluminumHaste claims it's easy, but I haven't been able to do it once. I made sure the guard had nothing on them to pickpocket, my items were cleared. Just me, a poor builder, my blackjack and a saved game to reload over and over. I have frob-to-use enabled. I have tried to press Frob/Interact right after the knockout, then Use-Inventory-Item. That's how I shoulder a body when I'm picking it up off the ground. Maybe my positioning is off; I have never been able to see the body highlighted until it hits the ground.
  17. This is a fine example of game makers who are gamers! To all the people involved in The Dark Mod, you are awesome, and keep up the great work!!
  18. I was gonna post the same thing. I hid a body in a place where I was once able to hide from guards myself, and the body was found. The guard's path was the same as when I was hiding in the shadows too.
  19. Okay. Thanks for the reply.
  20. Is there a console command that will allow me to walk or even run over any surface without alerting the AI? I enjoy the slow, realistic pace of The Dark Mod, but I think that it would be fun to mix it up every now and then with some faster paced stealth. Running silently would provide this faster pace I think.

    TDM Combat

Your question got me thinking. The enemy that I fight on Awaiting the Storm is carrying a torch. I killed him and looked for a new opponent to study. I found one; this city watchmen in a blue tunic wasn't carrying a torch. His downward attack animations weren't as vertical as the city watchmen carrying the torch! I remembered that there is a city watchmen carrying a torch in The Beleaguered Fence. I studied him. His downward attack animations were also quite vertical. I think it's safe to say that enemies carrying torches have a very vertical upwards-chambering/downwards-attack, while the rest do not. Is there any way that you guys could transfer this vertical animation to non-torch-carrying enemies?

I decided to study the animations again to see if I was going crazy. I played The Alchemist level first. I ran backwards avoiding the enemy attacks for about 5 minutes while I studied the downward attack animations. I then did the same for the Awaiting the Storm mission. I played the Alchemist one more time for another 5 minutes, then played Awaiting the Storm one last time for another 5 minutes and I am quite positive that the downward attack animations for Awaiting the Storm are drastically more up and down than The Alchemist's animations. Perhaps it's an anomaly for me.
  23. The Dark Mod is currently may favorite game. Considering that the Thief series has been my favorite for about a decade, I imagine that TDM will be my favorite game for a long time. Co-op multiplayer would make this great game even more fun!
