  1. Yes, you were lucky. When it came out it I think it was the worst thing to ever happen to a PC. Even some viruses don't behave like that. By the way, how goes the process of adapting TDM to Windows 10?
  2. I remember Vista crashing and freezing all the time. Btw I thought a list like that would include MS-DOS (not that's it's Windows but, you know - Microsoft and Bill Gates)!] Realistically, I might update to Win 10 only after I'm sure there's no files to lose due to incompatibility. By that time many problems might get solved as well. Here's when we'll see how much GOG's policy of compatible games is worth! Let the compatibility battles begin!
  3. The most important question is: Can Windows 10 actually be worse than Windows Vista? Which one is the worst? Which one is the worst?
  4. Really? Zombies feel like they have 5 or 6 lines and that's it. In the un-modded vanilla TDM.
  5. Welcome and good luck to you! We love small missions!
  6. The best thing about System Shock was the intro in the first game. I wasn't terribly impressed. Playing SS2 in 2015 didn't change too much for me. If anything I sympathized more with Bioshock because of the nice 40's, 50's soundtrack, although it blatantly copy/pasted some mechanics - but who cares I play it like Quake anyway. If SS3 is going to be like Dead Space with the old mechanics... well more choice in sci-fi games I guess.
  7. That building violates intellctual property.
  8. Recently I'm actually thinking that Pathologic http://store.steampowered.com/app/384110/ is one of the most important games in my life. It's quickly earning that place in my heart. Just thought this one needs a little spotlight.
  9. I read it all the time. The rules of Facebook are as follows: The not-interesting will be scrolled over The interesting will be liked The spam will be banned The personal will be commended A photo will be rated Poems will be read Re-posts will be taken into account The important will get attention The plain shall be heard And rated offline And the rest will be in your friends list. Don't underestimate social networks in regard to the exposure you get!
  10. The Witcher Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines Thief - of course Red Faction 2 ? I was amazed to see that the internet thought it was a bad game. But all games in the series basically are to my liking. The best antagonist in a combination of Hitler and Stalin in RF2. Red Faction in general is pretty underrated. Only game series that doesn't lie about full destruction. Here's a good demonstration: Also because Nordic Games updated Guerrilla and removed Games for Windows Live. Who does that to old games anymore? L.A. Noire I will always promote this one. One of the few attempts to bring something new as a genre to video games in the last years. A good detective with real-world issues.
  11. Thanks for the encouragement. Yeah, I did this in like 1 or 2 hours. I had no time at all but I thought that maybe it would be worth it. This needs much more time investment to make it better into something not-amateur. I realize that additional editing will make it better. I used only basic features of Audacity. Obviously this will not be enough. Time will tell if I can handle a proper well-paced and quality sound file.
  12. I did something really weird, I think I'm onto something though but it's still a very rough loop with lots of side noises I didn't manage to remove (but I made them less loud). It's conceived to be a cello in a kind of a large hall. https://soundcloud.com/andrew-turcan/dreamland-wip-1
  13. Speaking of that. Specifically Sword of Destiny and The Last Wish are structured like short stories. But who would've thought that after them, the other 5 books are totally different and actually have a much more connected story. So the actual saga is in Blood of the Elver, Time of Contempt, Baptism by Fire, Swallow's Tower and Lady of the Lake. Everything else is basically stories of Geralt's life scattered like Sherlock Holmes's stories, or Edgar Allan Poe's. Just for you knowledge. They did serve to me as a nice introduction to make this less intimidating. I'm wasn't a big reader prior to these books.
  14. You should like it as well. I have yet to get to the third game, no time to play but I read the books in 2014. This is definately deeper than Game of Thrones. Postmodernism with taste. The sex has more taste, the people are more conscious of the reality. As a side by side comparisson, thus far - witcher is the more authentic world both in games and in books. Doesn't have forced or artificial story elements (with some exceptions of over-sexualization of women, cards in W1 - which are probably why it never refused it's postmodernist influences). The whole series had a profound impact on my life.
  15. I don't know. I wasn't aware anyone had it in plans. It wouldn't hurt if it's possible.
  16. Yes there was some initiative with a developer made SDK. I'm not sure what's up with that but a lot of the mods are bound to change the game significantly. I'd leave them for the 3'rd playthrough. The most famous one seems to be Full Combat Rebalance mod. But I didn't like it much after Witcher 1. You can find it here if you want to: http://redkit.cdprojektred.com/index.php?c=mod&m=show&p=77 But be careful though, in my opinion the most balanced game is the original un-modded one. Quest mods though should be interesting, although they are limited in number. It seems a lot of people just went straight to Witcher 3. Witcher 1 had it's own share of peculiar scenarios as well that few people actually touched.
  17. This is actually very, very useful. Can this be stickied on the forum? I am afraid for this to be lost.
  18. Better than nothing! But yeah the woman could do with better edges around the mouth, wrinkles and the forehead.
  19. I do as well sometimes too but I got to stay on my toes all the time. I kind got used to it and headphones might get in the way. In-game I tend to never add music of my own because it breaks the intended atmosphere of the game/level that the creator intended.
  20. Such is life I guess. And the consequence of making games closer to the 2000's rather than the gloomy, moody 90's. I guess that's why Thief 1 was darker and more gothic than Thief 2's steampunk. Maybe. If I'm wrong correct me. That's how I felt about it.
  21. You are correct, yet TDM is also an analogy and an alternative that never happened for the Thief series. It shouldn't copy/paste Thief, but continuing the tradition with the Thief feel is what everyone reasonably expects from TDM as well as from Thief FM's. In short - what would TDM be without Thief serving as an example?
  22. What do you mean? Every Thief game has changing background music. It is only appropriate for TDM. Even Thief 2 and Deadly Shadows has loops meant specifically for one or another area of the same level. Like in DS the music that plays at your rented apartment and the one that plays in South Quarter - but it's the same track in the OST: And it also plays in the end of the game: https://youtu.be/i8gyw1dDY9Y?t=2m47s
