Thanks for your impressions. Might give it another go when it's available for cheap. (Yes, I'm cheap )

We have been spoiled by the earlier Epic Store freebies. I found the last year or so of freebies there pretty disappointing. I won't complain though. If I take a look at my Epic library, which consists solely of free games, there are games which I would have paid total of 500 € for on Steam... Including some games for which I actually paid 59 € on Steam when I bought them shortly after released.

Is Nvidia Remix technology possible to be applied on the Dark Mod?
chakkman replied to Nighthound's topic in The Dark Mod
It's amazing how TDM already progressed in that area over the last 10 years, if you take a look at some videos of people playing older missions in older TDM versions. Personally, I don't need better graphics than TDM already offers. -
Fan Mission: The Accountant 2: New In Town by Goldwell (2016/05/09)
chakkman replied to Goldwell's topic in Fan Missions
If you haven't played the Shadows of Northdale missions yet, I highly recommend to do so. The Accountant 2 was good, but, the Shadows of Northdale missions are quite a step ahead in my opinion. -
That view from the cave with the moving grass is very moody.

No idea. I only know that Arkane Studios are Frenchies who did Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah before doing Dishonored, and that they have been advised artistically by Harvey Smith (Deus Ex, System Shock, Thief Deadly Shadows), and that they've had Stepehn Russell as voice actor for some of their games (Arx Fatalis, Dishonored 2, Prey). So, lot of overlap to the Thief games and others.

Dishonored Definitive Edition free on Epic Games: https://store.epicgames.com/de/p/dishonored-definitive-edition I guess there's no one here not yet owning it, but, thought I'd post it anyway.

Couldn't help but installing it and taking a look. The gameplay is very nice, and the game has a lot of potential. The graphics for me are absolutely sufficient, but, I'm sure that some graphic fetishists will claim the contrary. There are some odd design decisions though. The inventory is tedious and restrictive. I either hope that it is revised, or that you get a bigger suitcase later. There is no real darkness, so, if an enemy is near enough, it'll always spot you, even in total "darkness". There is no silent weapon to kill guards. With the foil, you will always make some noise when you backstab a guard, which will alert nearby guards. Even when you get the Undertaker Pistol later in the game, although silenced, it will not be a one headshot silent kill weapon. There is no blackjack either, which is a shame. The guards are too wary. The field of vision is too big, so that they spot you even from more than 90° angle. There is no real option against multiple enemies, apart from the ultra noisy "place explosive barrel behind 2 enemies and explode it with the revolver" option. And, last but not least, that beast in the tavern. It's completely overpowered and unbalanced. And it somehow notices when you break into the room with the safe, which will make even sneaking past it much harder. So, yeah, a game with big potential, but with some really odd design choices, which I don't think contribute to the experience in many cases.

Worms Revolution free on GOG: https://www.gog.com/de/game/worms_revolution

I just grabbed those, even though I already own Fallout and Fallout 2 on Steam.

I bought the game some weeks ago, but, I feel like waiting until it's finished. Nothing worse than play a game, and then reaching a dead end, or playing without features which have yet to be implemented. I hope it will be finished one day though... you never know with these indie early access games.

If you don't mind spending a few €, I'm sure it'll be on sale on any platform eventuall as well. It's definitely worth it, cool game.

Shame, it's a great game. And, one of the best world design I've ever seen in a game as well. The forest actually looks like a forest.

I'm usually not one to complain about free stuff, but, Epic Games definitely set the bar very high, for themselves and others. So far, the freebies were a big disappointment, unless you didn't already own Wolfenstein New Order. Which, frankly though, is a braindead shooter. Really expected something better from them. But, it's probably unjustified to complain. After all, I know that they spent a lot of money for their past freebies, and that they only were so good because they want to promote their store, and give Steam a run for its money. Which is pretty unrealistic in the first place, of course.

GOG has a nice freebie today: https://www.gog.com/de/game/broken_sword_directors_cut Can recommend that game, nice classic adventure. I played it through not long ago.

As has been said elsewhere, reminds me of Dishonored. Nice.

I have the same card, and only could get to about 40 to 60 FPS at full HD by switching a couple of options of or lower. I'll stick with the normal Portal.

To be honest, it's amazing what they gave out over the years... my Epic Games library is full of stuff I paid good money for on Steam. It only has been recently that their giveaways have become a bit lame. As you frequently post the GOG freebies here: They're quite a laugh compared to what Epic Games gave away for free. But, that's not really a surprise, as Epic Games pays a lot of money for their giveaways, to get their store and service running. Didn't really work out so far though. For my freebie of the day: Portal with RTX was released today. I can only recommend to download it if you have a beast of a high end PC though. Even in Full HD with reduced settings, it runs like crap here... Well, apart from some more graphics eye candy, it's the same game as the normal Portal anyway.

Decrease volume of open/close door sounds triggered by player
chakkman replied to snatcher's topic in Music & SFX
Well, it doesn't sound bad, but, I still don't quite see the point. It would just be a gimmick. There's enough of a clue right now as to who is operating the door. I think what you're suggesting is more of a case of atmosphere, than anything really adding to the gameplay. I don't need that, but, YMMV. -

No, but, there are a lot of gameplay choices in games which are applied as clues to make the game more playable. IMO, this is one of those things. It's surely not realistic, but, personally, I just need that audible clue to know that the door really closed. I like to close doors, because then you hear them when an NPC enters the room. -

Because it's an audible clue that you opened or closed a door. Nothing more, nothing less. It would be horrible if I close the door, then turn my back, and don't hear if the door has really been closed. Because, it can always happen that you didn't trigger the closing, or hindered the door to fully close when you walked through the door. -

It feels like it's every time a part of the game world loads. It's after cut scenes, and when you enter new areas. It's quite severe, so, yep, looks like no proper optimization (I'm sure they'll have that fixed in a few weeks). Spec requirements seem to be pretty high as well though. I didn't change the graphics settings, but, most of it was on medium, and, it dropped to 60 to 70 FPS in some places, playing in full HD with a RTX 3060 Ti, and a i5-11600K. The game in general feels a bit hastily released. I also wasn't able to change the menu and ingame language into English, and there was a bug in the skin menu, where the character was doubled when you moved the camera around. I must admit that I'm growing a bit tired of all those shiny graphics wonders that are being released these days. I wished they would rather go for better gameplay, polishing, and forget the photorealism. But, I'm probably completely antiquated in that thinking. For today's kids, only the visual WOW is important. Really, your GPU's coolers are running full throttle, and for what really?
