  1. Same for me: I sent Tels my three translations, which he did incorporate into the FMs he adapted himself to the new system. That was "Living Expenses", "Too Late" and "Crown of Penitence".
  2. SFiFU, is Ghostery doing the same thing as NotScripts, or should I install both extensions in parallel?
  3. I am SO with you on this one. Over the years, I have witnessed way too many times that folks (professional translators just as well as the average person who had English at school) had a way too high opinion of their own abilities. It's especially annoying if you try your best to give positive feedback to the person and (s)he either rejects it completely or manages to find little changes clearly marked as Preferential and tries to discuss them to great length... Just had this again less than a week ago. I'm still pissed. And to think I'll still have to actually pay her... :-/

    Deus Ex 3

Big announcement: In case you haven't noticed, the movie rights for Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex have been bought. The AC movie will star Michael Fassbender als the Assassin. There is not much known about the DX movie except that it will be directed by Adrian Askarieh, who brought us the Hitman movie (which is said to be surprisingly good), and the producer of The Ring (US remake), The Grudge (US remake), Roy Lee. Please find the full story here. I just hope the movie will be better than the House of the Dead adaptation by Uwe Boll.
  5. This is actually ShadowHide's work? Wow, I'm impressed! For someone who was very vocal about how much he hates DR and TDM, he sure made some progress.
  6. Dude, this is awesome! Until now, translating TDM FMs was tedious work, so in the end, while I was motivated, I translated only three of them. With your work, any future translations should progress much faster and easier. Thank you very much, both of you! LOL Hyeron, you just described my ongoing attempts to find suitable translators for Russian (for my day job). Although there are many translators on the market, it's really difficult to find translators you can work with. They have to fit several requirements (which partly apply to FM translations, too). The key requirement of course is understanding the source just as well as target language. Many people out there think of themselves as pretty fluent in English, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are actually good at writing in their native language. Also, regarding TDM FMs, how much effort are you willing to pour into this (sometimes thankless) work - especially if the mapper himself couldn't care any less about what you are doing? How close are you willing to stay to the source while staying with the conventions of your native language? And then there is the matter of being open to criticism. That's the final requirement and the point where many potential candidates fall through. It's all good and well if you put great effort into your translation, and you surely should be able to say why you translated the way you did (or even defend your translation), but in the end it comes down to obey the client's wishes. You either learn that (and fast) or be gone. Yes, trust has a lot to do with letting someone translate for you. In the end, the only thing you can do is to try out different people to find someone who ticks the way you do. And if you find that somebody, you treasure this person and hope that (s)he never gets sick (or pregnant). Spring, these are (smallish) bugs that can and will be ironed out in time. What's important is to change the mindset of some mappers - that translation of their babies is something to frown upon and to discourage, lest their baby is somehow hurt. While I absolutely agree that a bad translation can lead to severe WTFs in the target language's community, I think that this should be welcomed as a way to open TDM to an even larger audience. There will be accidents (in the form of bad translations) along the way, but overall these efforts will lead to something The Dark Mod will benefit from.
  7. @Springheel: Can you please check if your Inbox is full? I sent you a message asking if you have made progress with that certain project. Can you give me an update on that?
  8. LEGION is/was the resident TDM guru for EAX-enhanced FMs, but he is busy with RL and I haven't heard back form him for a while. I have, however, occasional contact with his girlfriend on Facebook. Next time I'll talk to her, I'll ask her to ask him to post a guide on how to enable EAX. I remember that he said that it's fairly straight forward.
  9. I imagine this bed standing in the luxury suite of a brothel, to accommodate one John and up to three ... Janes.
  10. Hey pussi, don't forget Germany, where (according to Wiki) 100.000 ppl in 55 cities protested even in the face of arctic temperatures.

    Animated 2D-Art

Regarding anime, I recommend both Ghost in the Shell movies plus both both TV show seasons (Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig). Nice to look at and a grown-up story to boot. My all-time favourite.
  12. So, did the Arx Libertatis team fix the Thief appoarch in the game that was criticized in one of the posts above?
  13. Nah, I finally found it. Turned out I was too dense to use the search feature correctly. Anyway, here it is. Works with Doom 3, but only few other games. I really had hoped that the list of supported games would be longer by now. Still, I might try it out when I replace my 5.1 headset.
  14. Guys, there was this new 3D sound emulation driver that was discussed here. I remember seeing a YT vid featuring this in an Unreal environment, I think. Only I can't find it here or online. Can someone plz point me to the right post/link?
  15. Well, how about Bobby Kotick sucking the fun out of gaming?
  16. I do NOT recommend playing Amnesia during holidays. This game will scare the freaking hell out of you, that's for sure. Also, it's more horror than sneaking (which is an essential part, but only to let you survive), so it doesn't really fit the bill. Still, it's definitely a great game!
  17. I'd say go for Deus Ex 3. It offers stealth, has nice enough graphics, a soundtrack that is insanely stunning and a story that powerfully drives you through the game, not to mention the myriad of readables that add incredible depth to the game's world. Of all the games mentioned here, I'd think this best fills your demands - except of course the setting, which is really hard sci-fi. On the other hand, Riddick is no Steampunk either.
  18. So, was it any good? I did like the first two Alien movies (the other two were utter bull, if you ask me), so I'm wondering if at least the prequel is inspired.
  19. You coudn't have picked a more spam-bot like looking name, could you? Anyway, I hope you'll like this mod and will feel motivated to add a mission or two to the slowly growing list of FMs.
  20. I don't use hibernation as well (hiberfil.sys wastes 6 GB on my SSD!), mainly because the computer boots up fast enough (and I can shut it down properly without wasting time), but also because I avoid standby modes since I first owned a Corsair Force SSD. Those drives had a particularly bad habit of breaking up if they went on standby, so it was highly recommended at that time to absolutely avoid that. I have never heard of such a thing for my OCZ drives, and I also don't know if Corsair eventually fixed the issue, but I still have all standby modes disabled - you never know. Also, a full shutdown wastes even less electric energy than even the lowest standby mode.
  21. Doing so, you are wasting your drive's potential. Anand from AnandTech wrote an article about SSD life and flash cell wear. He quotes numbers from Intel, saying that you'd have to actually write somewhere around 20 GB per day for 5 years to get your first worn flash cells. Afterwards, he's talking about his own drive use, stating that he writes around 7 GB per day: "If I never install another application and just go about my business, my drive has 203.4GB of space to spread out those 7GB of writes per day. That means in roughly 29 days my SSD, if it wear levels perfectly, I will have written to every single available flash block on my drive. Tack on another 7 days if the drive is smart enough to move my static data around to wear level even more properly. So we’re at approximately 36 days before I exhaust one out of my ~10,000 write cycles. Multiply that out and it would take 360,000 days of using my machine the way I have been for the past two weeks for all of my NAND to wear out; once again, assuming perfect wear leveling. That’s 986 years. Your NAND flash cells will actually lose their charge well before that time comes, in about 10 years." So you might do yourself a favor if you put all your temp directories back on the SSD. I'm pretty sure you'll notice an increase in responsiveness. At least I did.
  22. So guys, what did we learn from this? Less bitching, more researching and making informed statements, maybe? P.S.: I'm sooooooo in love with the elf girl!
  23. Guys, forget the MLC/SLC issue. Sure, SLC is a bit faster, but in a real-world scenario, you'll hardly notice the difference. And regarding the flash cell life, well, since the wear level algorithms do their job well and the spare area (that you don't get to see) is sufficient enough, you won't have to worry about losing data because of failing chips. @Mortem: The OCZ Vertex 2 60 GB is available for 50 EUR, so this should easily translate to 50 USD for you. It's a reliable drive with a mature firmware, a real bargain.
  24. Still, do NOT go below 60 GB because as you will soon notice, space is really scarce on SSD drives. Soon, you start migrating game installations there, and afterwards you'll have to clean up your temp directories every few days. Trust me, I've been there.
