  1. New contest? The Best Use Of Nosslak's Killer New Model In Combination With Rich's Killer New Translucency Effect All The While Exploiting The Fidcal's Killer New Killer Mushrooms Contest
  2. The best example of this practice is the entire 3d modeling and rendering nomenclature "system"! There is a lot of this throughout the IT world, of course, but nowhere, in my experience as thoroughly systemic as what I see in this area... ... ... ...."normals"... fucksake ... Anyway, I had to say that, but what I really wanted to say is: Thanks for the download-able demo, Rich! And the work that went into it. ... Less accurate = Entirely inaccurate -- entirely defeating the purpose
  3. Excellent vocals. Terrible recording (normalized and this becomes very evident). And, yes, lossy compression should be buried deep in the dustbin of history... But again, I, as a fan-player-bystanding-opinionator, liked the vocals muchly.
  4. Top 5 definitions for "Frank Dickson" according to "Urban Dictionary": 1. something that is sweet. 2. a kick ass mother fucker who will beat you if pissed off. 3. old ass golfer. 4. a general term for somebody. 5. large cigar smoking man.
  5. "Weird" was the inspiration for that particularly inspired list. I just find it so weird that so many people spell it wrong... it's down-right "bizzare"*! I realize that, as with most things, it might be said that you only notice the times things go wrong, but it really seems that "weird" is misspelled more often than not... *Another awdly overly misspelled one -- but still a little less strainge because "bizarre" is a little more escoterrical.
  6. Oooh let's see a curtain! I know that sounds geek, but I'm actually serious. Would love to see this. Also, if you do do, can you please put the video up somewhere to download rather than stream? Very. Very. Very. Cool!

  8. I love it. As many functions and varieties as possible: Colors (indicators or use? maybe... maybe not) Some you can pick up and use as weapons... some that explode on touch (arrows will work as well as a good frobbing)... some that you have to bash to extinguish or explode... This is great stuff you guys are doing and, just think, it's only one entity-group!
  9. Yeah that looks like some really nice stuff, Siyah. I may be over-reaching, but think you've got a style that'll be a great addition to the FMers! I'm tempted to DEMAND! ( ) a non-muddied screenshot... but I understand the idea and need to just wait for the mission...
  10. Appreciate the hell out of this kind of stuff, I do. Thanks for the linkage!
  11. Sounds to me like possibly a unicode/utf-8/ansi text file encode problem.
  12. Here's a few things to mess with... Make sure that your doom3 install under Linux is in a directory called ".doom3" (Mind the dot in the path)Modify the settings you want to stick by dealing with the DoomConfig.cfg in the "base" directory of your ".doom3" directory; this is the "master" cfg, I do believe.Make sure that the command-line (shortcuts/aliases) parameters are not messing things up for you as all of these settings "DoomConfig.cfg"can be applied there using "set" or "seta" (you also might want to Google on the intricacies of the difference between these two things {set vs seta} while you're at it...)Good luck.

  14. Yeah, I know... but the kind of person who actually says "rat's ass" always says... "could". Anyway I fixed it for ya. ETA: Anyway part 2: I can't find any .rats; who's got rats!?
  15. Yeah, .proc is interesting... but as for the other 2? I couldn't give a rats ass.
  16. You must or I will see to it that you are at the very least ostracized and possibly even hounded!
  17. Like I said, I'm happy that Tels is going to concentrate on the Mod itself. And I didn't really take his Sotha thing seriously, just thought I'd say something to all the others who might actually be slightly whats-the-using... "We still want your missions!" "Everybody has good ideas and such and such!" "It isn't really a contest; it's an invitation to a showcase." "I say this all for the sake of the community! (not because I selfishly want more missions to play, oh no)" And I still hope Tels will make a FM. Seems that's still happening.
  18. Is that true or is that one of those "believable"-and-so-that-says-it-all things? I don't even keep up with things like that any more (obviously), but I do know that new guy ("new" guy... long since) is nuts; and NOT (!) ( ) improving things a whit. He's fucking up the things that were right, FFS. But he's so fucking nuts, he's funny so... shithouse laughs, at least.
  19. Exactly... it should simply be: decades of it... not good enough? Still I'm willing to find out why. Like I say, I haven't looked at any code in ages so it might all be perfectly kosher and "standard".
  20. But it's in stdafx.h // stdafx.h : include file for standard system include files, // or project specific include files that are used frequently, but // are changed infrequently // #pragma once #include "targetver.h" [!if !CONSOLE_APP] #define WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN // Exclude rarely-used stuff from Windows headers [!else] ... I swear. I mean I know "bang" (!) is often shorthand for "not", and that's cool... but why is this new syntax in a header? Are they trying to make things more convoluted? It seems so and that's why I suspect MS.
  21. Happy to hear you won't be distracted. But, sad to hear any hint of the "why bother?"s... Why Pete Townshend might never have brought us "Who's Next" had he let Hendrix really freak him out as much as he said he did...
  22. Yeah the meaning is unclear, PranQster. (If not not)... That's one thing What's possibly infuriating is the need for this new (at least to me, old and out of it though I am) goddamned construct. It seems to me the basic preprocessor directives (and syntax) would suffice. I suspect MS has maybe "come up with an MS idea"... and if so it's another thing to put on my list of why I'd like to ring their necks (expletives heavily held-back, as I'm very possibly wrong about this).
  23. I think, maybe, all this ".doom3" stuff starts in the "DarkModGlobals.cpp" source @ line 292 #else // LINUX std::string iniPath = std::string(getenv("HOME")) + "/.doom3/darkmod/darkmod.ini"; Which propagates to profilePath const char* profilePath = iniPath.c_str(); And then further into the Globals and such... if((pfh = OpenProfile(profilePath, TRUE, FALSE)) == NULL) ... PROFILE_HANDLE *OpenProfile(const char *Path, BOOL CaseSensitive, BOOL bCreate) ETA: BTW, if greebo or any of the coders are reading this, my "Musing" (thread in the "Off Topic" section) today is really a question for one of y'all; hoping you might answer with something like: That's a perfectly legitmate preprocessor directive, you're just old...or That's some GD MS construct, and you are right to be asking "why? why!? why???!!!" Thanks.
