Got an email from my (now former) ISP, informing me that the $25, 1.5mb/s Internet service will go up to $35, starting in October. Yeah, that's right, $35 for wired Internet service that can't even cope with a 720p stream. Capitalism is wonderful.

This is a small company, where a human answers right when you call. I told them why I was canceling. Hopefully AT&T will drive them out of business. I'm all for competition, but these guys aren't competition, they're a joke. At least if they go bust, we can make the argument that there is no alternative to ATT, to get government restrictions in place.

Wouldn't real capitalism and free market result in fierce competition between companies, which would result in cheaper prices for the consumer?
But yeah, here where I live, they are phasing out wired connections in favour for wireless connection. But the pings are shit for wireless. I'm staying on my wire as long as possible. I can keep it, but it is not possible to buy a new wire connection anymore.

Yes, that's how its supposed to work. But the problem is, when a player gets too powerful and stifles competition, or when there is collusion, or when there are government enforced restrictions that hurt little companies while making life easy for big ones. Businessmen want a "free market" only as long as it benefits them.
