We're seeing 1TB SSD's coming in at $120 now. The hard drive manufacturers must be starting to sweat. Reports are that costs of flash will fall even more next year. I hope the hard drive manufacturers get thrashed by cheap SSDs, for not decreasing the price of 2-3TB drives much at all in the past four years.

...unnecessary. You can just overprovision the amount of NAND and use a nice controller to sort wearing out.

@Jaxa, when the SLC cache is maxxed out the perf of QLC falls to below that of a mechanical HDD. So in that instance its is a massive order of magnitude worse

I'm still never gonna stop using a plate for my archive.
It was proved that an SSD's life can be shortened a great deal by only a few sessions in a Denovo DRM game.
Personally - I think Hybrid SSD/HDD are good for boot, fast loading software, and file storage drives, all-in-one. Saves having 4 SATA filled up a bunch of partitions.
I'm not smug, though, like those other hybrid owners.
