  1. We're seeing 1TB SSD's coming in at $120 now. The hard drive manufacturers must be starting to sweat. Reports are that costs of flash will fall even more next year. I hope the hard drive manufacturers get thrashed by cheap SSDs, for not decreasing the price of 2-3TB drives much at all in the past four years.

100 TB hard drive by 2025 is optimistic. Seagate are currently estimating 48 TB by 2024. By the time that is out, there should be 1-2 petabyte SSDs.

There is a price floor for drives of about $20-40. Getting a 500 GB SSD probably makes more sense than a 2 TB HDD.

@All, you guys/girls need to be aware that the reason these 1TB are cheap is because they are using QLC nand. It has some major drawbacks -

Endurance of QLC doesn't seem to be an entire order of magnitude worse than TLC. If you are not doing multiple drive writes per day, you should be fine. Unpowered data retention could be a problem. So make it your primary drive for a computer you use every day.

There has been some research into improving endurance from thousands of cycles to millions or infinite by reheating the cells, but it hasn't emerged from the lab. Probably because the move to 3D NAND made it unnecess...
