  1. If you do, either skip the tutorial or noclip through the disciplines part or do it after that part. It doesn't crash or anything, but the game will not let you continue if you don't use the clan disciplines so if you sell obfuscate off (tits on a stealth pig) you'll not be able to pass that part without noclip or getting it again. Also do this at the start of the game and then show restraint; adding whatever points you want whenever you want kills the "role" part of the rpg. vstats sell corpus_vampirus (x2) sells blood buff vstats sell blood_healing (x2) sells blood healing vstats buy celerity (or whatever) x2 buys you a discipline with a dot (like the others at the beginning), if you do it only once you'll have to buy a "initial cost" of 10 exp to get the first. Kinda makes you think they wanted to add getting new disciplines in the original game doesn't it? Why is it that it's the good games that are buggy and rushed? My malkavian in my current playthrough has: auspex, celerity, fortitude, dementation, thaumaturgy (tremere dominate dialog options), animalism - though i don't expect that i will be able to fill more than two. I also edited in the possibility of adding the blunt fangs history to all clans because i like immersive cheating like that and it's fucking unfair that the nosferatu get it and other clans not (+1 exp every four). BTW, Camarilla edition changed most disciplines and their effects, check the descriptions in the char sheet. Also changed is research too. It's been made more important as it will affect persuation too.
  2. Might i suggest the malkavian clan? Nosferatu is nice for clan specific content too, but can get tedious if you're not a expert AI avoider (which a thief fan would be i guess) - specifically; getting "too near" a non-voiced npc (bot) by the front leads to masquerade breaches - it's not like you can't talk to people, and in fact, that is the major reason to play nosfearatu; to hear the "ugly" clan specific dialog. The game says to travel by sewers but that is boring and unecessary. Clan quest also introduces 4 or so new quests to all clans - i'd suggest not installing the compmod and any skin from the installer, leaving only the clanquest, 7.9 UP+, camarilla edition and the loader new screens (that replace the hideous camarilla edition ones). Compmod has nice ideas, but flawed execution (even in the cut down state incorporated in the clanquest mod). Specificially, the companions are inherently buggy due to the way elevators, AI and map entries work. Weather you want to install the difficulty mods depends on your masochism. Camarilla edition also makes the game harder (you lose blood with time, and low blood actually damages health) and easier (if you micromanage obsessivily, you can optimize your builds with the "college", besides what you can do in the normal game with the skill books and the npc teachers). BTW the last clan quest has non-combat alternatives/quests to two combat parts of the game. Both need some polishing, but they're very nice ideas already. Finally; let me call your attention to the console; not to cheat (much) but to adapt a clan to your favorite disciplines: you can buy a discipline once and it is added as a new discipline including with the 10pts initial buy cost to be actually able to use it (don't do this with tremere). So for instance you can take a malkavian, sell blood heal (cheating par-excellence, removing this makes the game 60% harder) and then buy celerity (and one other say; thaumaturgy). Also; thaumaturgy is special i found; it is used as a lowlevel dominate for clan tremere in dialogs (Ventrue have more dominate options, but any clan can have the tremere ones by adding thaumaturgy or possibly Ventrue ones with dominate). This actually may make your end character have less "full" dots: remember there is no grinding in this game; so only so much dots can be aquired, modulo order optimization with the books and teachers, and in the case of the college, exchanging money for dots in the "skills" section. Since books, teachers and the college target this (the middle row in the character sheet), you may want to reserve the actual experience to either of the physical or disciplines ones. There is a limit of one aditional disciple (or more if you remove others - like blood heal or blood buff - though blood buff is too useful to lockpick to be easily discarded).
  3. You can avoid (most of) the sewers in the latest clan quest mod. A bit too obvious, but really needed. @shadowhide: dialogs are easy to change, very easy dialog system with embeeded python scripting (the final evolution of the fallout 1 system; Fallout 1 & 2 -> arcanum -> ToEE -> bloodlines). Maps are harder and has only been possible recently due to different HL2 version (read the whole thread for the last, first post is not updated because it's not editable)
  4. Not bad at all. Should be default on 1srt window on gnome-shell.
  5. Use the virtual desktop feature of wine to the same resolution the game wants to avoid that problem. The java swing thing is more serious. lolololol. Much more serious. I want to see all those universities and middleware not upgrading for 5 years because some twit thought releasing without testing with java of all things was ok. Realistically this stuff should have been reported and fixed in the ubuntu prerelease. But i guess they DID notice, since netbeans 7.01 is not on the repositories while 6.7 was. If you put it in fullscreen mode and try to open a dialog, it blocks netbeans dead. Anyway, i think unity sucks more than gnome 3 with gnome-shell, and i am addicted i don't think xubuntu etc is for me so i guess i made my bed and am going to lay in it. It's not so bad as all that - the most annoying thing about the "single window centric" design is the filemanager, that should have never been so. Make that one "two window centric" -eg: default to opening another on the second time and selecting the other in the third etc, and it would work since file managers are used to copy things from a places to another places. And the ability to snap windows to regions is nice, though i hear it was "stolen" from xfce. Another annoying thing it's that it's easy to hover the hotpot by mistake, though i also love the convenience. Them replacing python in gnome shell extensions for javascript of all things is really stupid though. I guess they want to take advantage of a hypothetical sandboxing api that doesn't exist yet (of course!) but fuck them, a sandboxing api in python would be nice.
  6. Gnome3 broke the fullscreen code for a lot of things. Java swing in fullscreen modal dialogs are broken (and make the application unusuable since they block the window input AND appear below it. Wine is completely borked in fullscreen mode in the exact same manner you describe. I think that what happened is that they changed the underlying X window manager from compiz to something else. Opps, i guess those standards need to be improved. Anyway, go into "classic mode" to avoid that when you want a app in fullscreen. Nevertheless i'm digging gnome shell now that i've discovered the extension page: https://extensions.gnome.org/ (recommended: hide topbar and music integration (again))
  7. how about a tagcloud filtering system for the mission list? not visible immediately (and i frankly don't know how to make it look good), but something where you click "undead" and the ones that are so appear. I don't know if you want to allow votes (you may).
  8. I'm not "running linux". I'm running it in wine. The save is corrupted in a animation, the card animation. I recall there was a similar problem resolved now of some state not being saved if i held a button while opening a door or something and saved. It's not likely to be a wine bug. Just try to load the savegame in windows.
  9. I actually think it's not similar enough. The only mission that gave me a "life of the party" wide open areas was the alchemist... and it was quite spare because of that (and going into the roof - a plus - broke the illusion pretty hard). I think the engine needs someway to support open large areas without the room subdivision method it uses now before we start to see the glory days. maybe lod model substitution would help...
  10. windows lies about file permissions now. Program Files is "mirrored". When you're writing to it, you're actually writing to some derp user directory. It's the reason games no longer use saves in the same dir they were installed (annoying in wine if you want to save saves). Fuck installers. Fuck them (if you name the program that writes to program files "setup" something, they can write, so it's even more retarded).
  11. was this downloaded? I'd like to try again and am likely to overwrite quicksave.
  12. What a unusual form of the word strategy you used in the briefing. Correct, but it took google to convince me.
  13. House of teo, here is the save game (only missing the gamex86.dll and the pk4). Playing on wine on linux x86_64 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4OP60RX9
  14. Would a campaign allow a lesser download in total? You know, reused textures, compression of single solid file, etc.
  15. How about a map "zone selection"? It would give a little bit of info, and wouldn't rely on a immersion breaking text (breaking because, me the player doesn't know anything that thief the character is saying. I can enter the chute? Cool i guess. What chute?). I always liked how in thief Official missions the maps were incomplete, guesses and just plain wrong. This could be incorporated with such a map (even on a campaing). Find out the alternate entrance? The mysterious, ???/blank zone on the next map would allow/show selection as the secret passage entrance, instead of the front entrance flanked by the guard towers, or the eagles nest, with the cannon room. Art wise it's harder though, but even a normal person can make a simple sketched map-in-a-napkin. It would probably be hard to allow arbitrary hot-zones selection though (programmatically). Maybe there is a vector library somewhere that you can check for a closed polygon and check for mouse "insideness" you can use in Darkradiant though. Or maybe just use rectangles, and specify that the overlay must be a image (that can show whatever form inside the rectangle it wants, other colors/more detailed image. I'm not sure. You'd want a usability engineer to ask for advice on this.
  16. If only there was a way to instantly copy keys in a steampunk world, then you'd add the challenge of actually putting the key back into the AI before he notices (or maybe drop it on his previous path?) He would try to open the door, notice, exclaim "this is funny" then search back, and find the key near his route on the floor. Then go into alert if he doesn't find the key at the start of his route. But then again, this "realism" thing is a no issue to me.
  17. Not anymore. Windows vista introduced them (BSD always had them i think). thought you were talking about symlinks doh.
  18. I thought the checksums for pk4 files being different was normal? Since what's actually checksummed is the files inside them, since pk4 files are compressed files and that's the most efficient way to update those?
  19. Remove the requirement of having the linux version in the ~/.doom3 folder.
  20. Now that the exec can be replaced (with the source) this means that this can be disabled for good right?
  21. Make a github fork of the "best" optimization fork, and merge regularly. It doesn't seem too hard. Though considering you already have a system in-place maybe it is too disruptive for your workflow. Not using git?
  22. AMD asserted that. It wasn't decided. Welcome to AMERICA! (let's just put the server outside it).
