  1. It is interesting how idiocy/stupidity is the last disability that gets no recognition or sympathy at all. If you have any sort of diagnosable mental illness or physical disability or are missing one of your primary senses, you get all the sympathy and help in the world, but if you're born with a brain that is not as capable as other people - not quite mongoloid, like a sub 40 IQ, but just stupid, you're fucked, get no help, are resigned to a life of pointless menial labour since you're not fit for anything else, and get scorned openly by people like you.

    fake radiosity

They already have more or less fake radiosity in the new crysis engine. I'm sure it won't be so long before we have 'real' radiosity in game engines, with actual ray tracing and photon bouncing. Near realtime renderers are already being developed for applications like architectural visualisation. Global illumination/final gather/radiosity has rapidly been getting faster and faster in 3d renderers. With my quad core I can render GI scenes now in 3 minutes that would have taken an hour 3 years ago with an older machine. Real time won't be far away. However, for most games, I can't see how it's going to improve anything, other than looking a bit more pretty.
  3. Of course there is. No one would accuse a 2 year old of being an idiot.
  4. What? Both of those systems were stupid and brainless, requiring no skill or judgement whatsoever. I remember with TDS I actually removed the entire HUD and still was able to easily pick the lock just using sound. In Oblivion, I could pick the hardest lock in a few seconds every time with a security skill of 1.
  5. Yes, you can do that sort of blending with vertex maps, I think it only works with ASE files exported from max. I remember talking about it on the doom3world forums a few years ago, if you ask there you'll get a clearer answer.
  6. Don't listen to komag, he's a mormon. If you killed and ate his wife, he's still shake your hand and invite you in for coffee. The rest of us are all the sort of depraved heathens who have no mercy for div kids, so don't push it.
  7. You can't export lwo as obj from lightwave. The ligtwave obj exporter is archaic and doesn't export UVs (lightwave is the oldest 3d app by a long way, it started back in '89). Use deep exploraiton to convert the lwo to obj (or just direct to mb) and import them in maya. You may have to go to window-preferences-plugins and load the object import plugin (it's either that or the obj export plugin that isn't loaded by default)
  8. Jeez, you guys are easy to please, that character modeling is no better than average, and the 'paintings' look like they're just collages of photos blended together. The best part are the drawings which have a nice stylized quality about them, but that's not going to be of any use here.
  9. Heh, you can't put fellow team members on an ignore list you fool, this isn't a forum where nerds and autistics come to talk shit like TTLG, we're trying to get a job done here. Grow up.
  10. If you weren't a useless twat, you wouldn't need an aiming sight OR zoom. Try using skill. Next thing you'll want auto-aim like in console shooters.
  11. You don't need the bow sight in this game. Really, try it for a while without it, you'll see it's quite easy to aim. You only want it because you're used to it from the Thief games.
  12. Actually, you can get the best of both worlds. Yes, TDM is new and different, so making the old levels in TDM would give you a nice old feeling, while still playing somewhat differently at the same time. It wouldn't be much more work for a FM designer to make an old Thief level than to make a new one. I think we all know how popular the old ones would be, everyone would want to play them. I think the best way would be to use the old levels as strong inspiration rather than copying them outright though. Maybe use the map layout but change the objectives and guards etc, or go the other wya and use the story, objectives and setup of an old OM but make a new map layout to play it on. There are no legal problems to worry about when it comes to individual mappers, it's at their own risk.

    hmmm

WHat kind of thinking is that? You can't have an independent thought until you've heard everyone else's opinions on the subject? That's the most whacko thing I've ever heard. Certainly, it's true that you can't be sure your opinions are different from everyone else's until you've heard everyone else, but that's not the same as independence. YOu have to base your opinion on data, facts (or apparent facts, obviously you can't personally conduct every experiment yourself), but there's a difference between looking at cold data and basing your opinion on that, and simply quoting what someone else has said after they looked at the data. Of course, your ability to understand and interpret that data successfully is important, but I'd rather be wrong based on my own opinion than just ape what someone else says, because they are a supposed 'expert'. Those 'experts' are just out making a living the same as everyone else, and their opinions can be as biased as anyone else's.
  14. You don't need to build a rig in maya, use motionbuilder and that'll happen automatically, or there are auto rigger for maya as well. You don't even need to build a skeleton, since there are already templates from the other characters you can drop in. All you need to learning is skinning, and that's easy in any app, it's quite boring though. What do you mean by 'learn to apply animations' though?

demagogue s a typical victim of having read too much. His opinions are no longer his own, but pieced together from what other people think. There's no point in even having an opinion unless it's your own.

Obvious argument, my ass. It's easy to come up with worst possible scenarios when you don't actually have to give any evidence to show that its our fault, or give any evidence that we can actually turn the climate around if it's due to natural forces. To me, it's no better than the god argument - you may as well believe in god, because if he exists then you'll be fine, and if he doesn't, it won't matter anyway. Worst possible scenario is that you end up burning in hell for eternity if you take no action. So, we all start grovelling to god now 'just in case' ? It doesn't cost us anything to do so, so when you consider the risk, it's definitely worth it. I don't think that plucking worst case scenarios out of thin air and saying 'you better behave in a certain way or this might happen' is a very useful way to behave.
  17. Yes, but that was 10 years ago, when the PC gaming thing was still new and there was still the slightest modicum of integrity left among developers. That'll never happen again. I didn't say you shouldn't partake of it, I said you shouldn't whine when you get stung, that's all - they're not in it for you, they're in it for them.
  18. There are, but I think everyone would agree that the ones affecting the management of the entertainment industry for the rich lazy western masses with too much time on their hands, are the least important ones. Certainly to me, since I take no part in, or pleasure from, the pathetic, puerile industry, and as far as I'm concerned, anyone who does deserves any fucking over they might get.
  19. If you want to rebel against something Dave, then choose something that actually matters in the world - and there is plenty to choose from. Trying to rally the cybertroops against DRM and starforce just makes you look like a twat.
  20. What exactly is the problem with vista navigation? I like it more than xp, especially the new functionality of the address bar in explorer windows, and I haven't noticed any areas where navigation is worse than xp
  21. Except I didn't say that, I said I had no problems with it at all, I didn't qualify it, and certainly less than I had with XP, which used to freeze and bluescreen several times a week, and the memory management was terrible. Of course, if you have a shitty old computer, then you have to stick with the dusty old OSes like XP, and like it. You're the ones tacking your halfassed opinions of vista together from rumours, while I've actually been using it for 5 months in a production environment, and I push my computer to its limits in my job, whereas all you twats are concerned about is if it'll play the latest shooter at 5 extra FPS. Do as much raging against the machine as you want if it makes you feel better, but you still use their products anyway. You sound like a bunch of fleas arguing over who's sitting on the best dog.
  22. There are options you can turn off to stop those pop ups and just about everything else. Vista is a consumer level product, and the default settings are for people who know little or nothing about computing. MS assumes that the people who do know what they're doing will tweak it to their own satisfaction.
  23. How many of you guys are actually using Vista? I've been using it for 5 months without a glitch or a freeze or a crash, I've had no compatabiltiy problems with any hardware or software or drivers, and I have no performance problems (though fair enough, I do have a beast machine) I don't see the point in this thread, a bunch of guys who don't use an OS, talking shit about it, based on rumours they've heard on the net or their friends second cousin. If you don't want to use it, then don't.
  24. What age are you anyway Unstoppable? 14?
  25. I deleted all the big pk4 files from doom, because I didn't think you needed any of the default doom content to play TDM.
