  1. I never understood why games must have this replayability factor? What's wrong with an awesome one-time experience (especially so for shooters)? Take survival-exploration game "The Outer Wilds" for instance. An absolutely brilliant game (that every serious gamer should play), but the 2nd or even 3rd playthrough of it will never be as magical as the first one, not by a long shot. That being said, I feel like Doom Eternal actually offers quite a bit of replayability. There is so much to master in this game. If you haven't finished it on Nightmare yet, then you haven't really experienced the game at its fullest potential. And if you've done that, you can still try your hand at Ultra-Nightmare, i.e., highest difficulty and perma-death. I will definitely do another Nightmare-Run eventually, but Ultra-Nightmare is too much for me, I think.
  2. Witcher 2 and 3 actually had quite convincing erotic / love scenes, but I agree that this is not very common.
  3. So I am guessing you skipped the part where they showed off those incredible GIs?
  4. Interesting read, but this is not correct. There is the /LARGEADRESSAWARE flag with which you can allocate upto about 3.5 GB on a 32-bit process. https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/cpp/build/reference/largeaddressaware-handle-large-addresses?view=vs-2019 And we actually use the flag on TDM.
  5. I am not sure that is true. I think all my c++ colleages know enough about that stuff to write efficient code. But yeah, sure you learn nothing about cpu and memory when using java script. ^^
  6. Man, this soundtrack really sucks up every bit of adrenaline in your body and spits it out explosively!!
  7. The portayed workflow and the way of customization is incredible, 'though. Oh and, I loved Uncharted, but it definitely did not have that level of fidelity.
  8. Quake 3 was brilliant, 'though!! It's still being played to this day. That reminds me, Quake Pro League Finals are on today. I totally forgot! Cya! P.S. Going from an arena shooter to loot box gambling is quite a stretch, don't you think? ^^ Also, it's not like Quake 3 invented multiplayer.
  9. Did I miss something? They only talked about voxels when dealing with the topic of Global Illumination, didn't they?
  10. Incredible! "C&K - Lockdown Session - Climax & Kallisto" (Once again, the song I post does not really fit into the overall theme of this thread, but it is technically a readaption! ) https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=259727395179399
  11. Here is a quick analysis of the unreal engine 5 demo. It's not as in-depth as the title suggests, but gives us an idea about these two new technologies.
  12. Taken from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon...

    Unreal Engine 5

We posted the same shit at the same time. Brilliant!
  14. They were talking about triangles, so no. My guess is, they automatically generate LODs at map compilation or something like that.
  15. I am not implying that I only play games with superb AAA-graphics. But I'd still like to know how these technologies work because it is simply very interesting!!
  16. I think it is actually quite weird that we don't have a thread on graphics technology, yet. So, I would like to encourage you to share awesome new demos, talks, articles or papers about graphics technology here. I recently came accross this brilliant analysis of the rendering pipeline of "Rise of the Tomb Raider". I would love to see something like that for Doom Eternal, but so far, I could only find this rather superficial (but nevertheless interesting) review by Digital Foundry. Epic revealed Unreal Engine 5 today, which looks absolutely stunning. That Nanite-Technology will probably save game developers quite a bit of time. I do wonder, 'though, how the actually do it? Do they dynamically generate LOD-models? Also, does their Lumen technology require RTX?
  17. It's a really nice mini documentary and a love letter to looking glass and the thief community.
  18. Sure! I was just getting at the Fake-AO decals. I've seen people use such decals on every step of a staircase. That's stuff we probably won't need anymore.
  19. I guess mission authors should refrain from adding these grime decals now that we finally have SSAO.

    Story Mod

Most mission authors create a connected series of missions with a continuous story. Checkout the William Steele Series by Grayman, the Shadows of Northdale Series by Goldwell or the Thomas Porter Series by Sotha. There is also the No Honor Among Thieves Campaign by GoldChocobo.
  21. Those screenshots create an incredible classic-thief vibe! I feel home right away!
  22. Thanks for sharing your workaroung. I guess this could help @imaginaryboy for the time being.
  23. Ah ok, I was not aware of that. That's quite a bummer, actually! What course of action would you suggest, @stgatilov?
  24. You could try the 2.08 beta and check if the issue is still given with the borderless-fullscreen mode, which you can enable in the video-settings.
  25. What was the problem? Looking at the diff, aren't the mathematical operations the same as before?
