  1. What got me excited looking over Dram's stuff was actually how pretty and stark the daylight areas were - that tower looks exactly like a Menoese beacon / lighthouse I've been doodling. I love the idea of a daylight mission where the shadows of a crypt or the interior of some arid fortress are both a place of danger and your only respite.
  2. @Sotha: Ah - a very good point, well made.
  3. Definitely 4 for me - My only caveat is that if the thing I'm reading can be picked up, then it is important to reference. If it's a recipe book or a funny diversion, don't automatically put it in my inventory. xD
  4. A Faction Contest? I like the idea - that would also accomplish the task of exercising peoples' imaginations about the background or World of TDM.
  5. Can't wait for your new mission, BD!

  6. I can't wait, BD! We demand the best, the best, the best, the best of you! </Foo Fighters> =-P
  7. @Schatten I've only been here a month or so and I've seen about 3 versions of this thread, as well as at least one attempt to usurp you. =-P To be fair it's bloody good - Fidcal reposted one of your old posts explaining the thought that went into it... Pray tell what you are working on now? ;-P
  8. I don't know - I've never drawn a proper map, just ones from my head / plans. I'm kind of dipping my toe in the water posting super quick sketches - I desperately want to help, but I feel like a little kid trying to sneak a look at what a bunch of grown ups with proper skillsets are doing. =-P
  9. Man, that looks equisite, can't think of another word for it - I think the more prefabs and "furniture" there is for FM makers, the better - things like barometers or large clocks which we don't have any more in an average home are very pleasing markers of atmosphere.
  10. Hrrm. I wonder if we could re use the "pinky" demon animation for such a monster - in the same way that the werewolves just reuse the "imp" animations from Doom 3. That would be a pretty cool monster archetype to have lurking underground! And thanks for your answer about elementals! I was sure I couldn't remember them truly "flying" in the original games - but it would be really great if they did fly, like the cacodemons do - so they could chase you or cut you off in ways that normal AI can't.
  11. Damn, I could get lost in that - but mostly it's just warming the cockles of my heart for The Lost City all over again! Would love to draw someone Papyrus style maps for a mission like that, heh. You've got a point about the cobblestones, there - I found the sloped streets of Return To The City getting me paying attention to little things like that. That reminds me, would the City have wagonways at all? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wagonway
  12. V-Sync slaughters my frame rate in a lot of game - on an ATI card here admittedly, but for example, in Dead Space and a couple of other games, I was amazed that my new PC was so slow --- generally I have V-Sync off as a cautionary start point.
  13. I've been watching some playthroughs of some of my favourite Thief:TDP levels like "Down in the Bonehoard" and I've found myself wondering about hints of Lost City stuff or precursor civilizations as discussed in the Thief background thread. Got me hankering for some more old bones, so I sketched out a couple of Fire Shades or possible undead mages as I might imagine them lurking in deep sandstone caverns!
  14. I think the final Builder priest model in game is one of my favourite ones - Feels very unique. Encountering one wielding a hammer in a FM was a very nasty surprise! =-D
  15. Sorry, it's been almost a decade since I used a forum and I admit I've ended up treating it a bit like an IM service. Apologies.
  16. Thanks for the answer! Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was implying conspiracy, I figured it would be some incredibly mundane thing - but I just wanted to check what the situation was. =-3 Thanks, Fllood, I'll check that out later.
  17. A thread got bumped a while back digging up three missions by Gold Chocobo in a kind of mini campaign. I was surprised as I'd not noticed them on the list of missions in game which you can download. No Honour Among Thieves 1 2 and 3 I now have and I'm enjoying them, just started the second level. Are these not polished enough or are they buggy in some way that they aren't in the official list? Also - are there other technically finished levels that are still held back for one reason or another?
  18. Oh Demagogue, you have quite the jet set lifestyle! =-P Just finished Patently Dangerous, btw - impressively complex for a first mission!
  19. Thanks, Andrey! Digging the stylised quiver there in the loadout sketches.
  20. http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=FAQ#The_Sky_rotates This might be more relevant if you are having the same Skybox issues that I suffered from!
  21. Yes! There was one linked on BoingBoing a while back of the post war Berlin landscape - bullet holes and all, superimposed on top of much calmer, restored modern day views. I think it's a kind of sub genre which re-emerges amongst photography enthusiasts. =-3
  22. Yeah, I remember seeing a Belcher model, and one of the signs in the FMs for a pub has a Belcher in it. But you are right, as opposed to the undead or werewolves which are staples and already in TDM, the bipedal vomiting lizard monster is a little bit too specific to Thief! =-P Aww, that's a real shame about the elementals... I honestly thought you'd just get it to "walk" - I don't rememer the Thief ones flying very high above the ground and thought they didn't "fly" as such. I am ready to be wrong, though! One of things I was terrified of in Thief was the fire elemental which appears in human form. I thought I was fighting them in Badcog's Vertical FM, and in Sotha's but they were all merely undead who were /on fire/. Has anyone modified an in game humanoid like that so it can only be killed by water arrows? I've played almost every FM and haven't encountered any "spirit" creatures or apparaitions like that yet.
  23. Thanks, Shadowhide - I think T2X is the most ambitious one I remember reading about years ago - but I might try some of the non-campaign maps first to get back into the flow of the engine. @Springheel Hey, did Belchers or Fire Elementals ever get any AI love? Or were they so hated by old school thieves (As Burricks and in the Lost City) that they got thrown into the Recycle bin? =-P
  24. I like the variety of heads and bodies you got into the final mod - I always feel like the guards I'm evading are all different people with personalities rather than cardboard cut outs.
  25. Welcome to the Mod! And thanks STiFU for those tips. Yes, I encountered a similar crash - it seems to be on quite large levels in similar places where an occasional quicksave crash happens - as STiFU notes, it's good to have backups! I've got about 50 hours of Dark Mod chalked up and I've still got some of the biggest missions left to do! =-3
