  1. Mechanics of lockpicking is discussed here http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showforum=14 and here http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=170. This thread is actualy only about the position of the locks. Or did you mean that? Not sure about this.
  2. I'll work on these. PS: I just posted a sample environmental scene in the Art section: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...findpost&p=1795

Here is the best budget 3D rendering info I have ever read. I love it because I actually preffer the tools involved over the proffesional ones, because they are simply geared toward video game models, and you can make high quality ones too, for the normal maps. Check out this thread; http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/vie...t=wings3d#10937 This post specifically; So basically; Wings3D = Modelling LithUnwrap = UW mapping CharacterFX = Animation As an example of what he does with this setup, check out his home page http://members.lycos.co.uk/arras1/ Click on "Gallery". It's worth it. Some of that stuff would fit right in with the Thief world. His humans are awesome.
  4. Good idea, but I feel that we need West and East pointed somehow. There are some good pics in this thread. I LOVE that one god_is_my_goldfish made, except that it's probably a bit too ornate, and has too many thin bits that will be blurred up when scaled down. HUD items have to be very clear.
  5. great crystals ! As I mentioned in the other thread I'd prefer your 'old' noisemaker made of porcelain.
  6. Sounds good, i'll work on concepts for the following, to be used at the team's discretion- A good mine concept Some elemental crystal concepts A simple broadhead concept. A gas mine Lockpicks (though we should probably clear up how lockpicking should be first, I'll start a thread on it if there isn't one already) The short sword Some simple enemies (Quick question, are we bringin back burricks or something burrick-like?) And,... um, yeah.
  7. I'm not sure if we decided to insert gas-bombs in our mod. To be honest I don't like them much, cauze I think they make the game too easy. We should discuss that in the Devchat Forum. But I like your noisemaker It looks great and the way it emitts noise is IMO the best solution for an arrow. I don't like that fireworks stuff in thief 3.... However I'd prefer a crystal moss-arrow as I mentioned in the other thread.
  8. LOL, ummmmmmm.......someone has my login I think -- or the forum's trippin'. I didn't write this. Considering this other thread that's going on (http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...st=0entry1247), I'd say something's amiss with the forum.. or someone's playin' gamez.
  9. We've had this discussion already. Check out: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...%20dagger&st=50
  10. This question was asked in the Ion Storm forums a while back. I thought it might help us to conjure up more resources and spur more creativity... Source: http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=290033 The City is an amalgamation of times and places, both actual and fictional. Medieval & Victorian London and France, modern-day Prague, and even parts of Boston (home of the ghosts of Looking Glass) have been mentioned as real places that influenced the look & feel of the City. Some oft-cited art references are The City of Lost Children, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Name of the Rose. The works of Mike Mignola (Fafhrd / Mouser stuff), Tim Burton (Mr. Wrought Iron Himself), Jules Verne, Charles D-i-c-k-e-n-s, and Alan Moore / Eddie Campbell have also been mentioned a fair few times as influences. That's just a sampling, there are dozens of others .
  11. Whoa, can we shrink that image down a bit? Images should be kept at a reasonable size on the forums...if they absolutely need to be bigger than 800x600, then we should use a link. The cathedral doesn't look bad, but that tower really looks familiar. Is it based on something? I originally thought of Orthanc, but I know it isn't the movie version.
  12. hey guys. just checking back at the forum to let you guys know that i'm still here and awaiting directions. i've only started looking around the dark mod forums, but havent yet seen everything, ill continue on to see what resources / info is available. well, fingernail or whoever's in charge , when you have some work for me, just email. thanks . btwy, forums is an ok way to get informed, but what we really need is an irc channel.
  13. Don't forget to look at the links, not just the pretty pictures (there is a limit on IMG tags in a post). Anyway, onwards: Weapon Models Bow Arrow (just broadhead for now) - figure 146, not 147. Short Sword Blackjack - you know what this looks like. I'd prefer less of a T3 club to more of a T2 style hard material thing. More coming....

    Pick! Me!

I have more art examples then what you can see at my VCL archive, the problem is I have no place to up load work at this time! Yes I like the Japanese styles of art but if you look at: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...ptsSketches.jpg I think you will see I can do just about any stile that is needed. The problem with the VCL archive is they have content restrictions on the types of art that can be uploaded: only Furry Art. This stuff is more of my hobby art it’s like my favorite pastime (other then being a pervert, lol). If you don’t think I can pleas test my skills and ask me to drawl something for your project. As fare as modeling and animating go I am not as experienced but I assure you I am very good with sculpture: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...01-by-date.html and 3D modeling. As I have mentioned I have no place to up load this stuff. I could send an email with some other art and 3D models if you want to see what I am capable of. I will have to spend some time at home scanning and prepping my other work to show you. Because I cant really use office time and equipment on personal projects. But they do let us getaway with some surfing and non company emails. But I am going to spend the money and get an ISP so I can up load more of my work to show you better what I can do. I have been trying to save money so I could up grade my computers (I need to get a MS SQL server to test/develop my database code for my personal project). Most of what I am working on now in my free time is managing large dynamic persistent environments, which can be streamed over the web, searched, ext... Well at any rate if you would like me to prove my self by just jumping rite in to the modeling or art asset generation pleas feel free to test me! I see working with your teem as a chance to diversify my portfolio and grow more skilled as an artist! But if my willingness to work for free isn’t enough I will be glad to take the time to get my portfolio site back together and pay to host it online so to compel or prove to you that I am a talented and creative artist. that would like to help with your Thief style project. Regards, Maus

If you want to stay free, use Blender (someone wrote an exporter for D3).... You could learn Lightwave and I'm sure it's great, but I think there has been an exporter written for 3DSMax also. Not sure though...check the D3W forums.
  16. I think perhaps I'll have to pick up Blender to carry us over our lack of 3D team....that is, only one modeller. Adverts have gone on D3W, ttlg & polycount: any of you advertise on any other suitable forums too.
  17. The face sketch is here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...3&st=0#entry796 I wasn't sure whether a side view was necessary...if you'd like one just let me know.
  18. Well I have just been listening to the MP3's, and Darkness Falls has my vote to keep working on the ambience tracks for our mod That kind of thing sounds like it could be developed into the style from Thief we all know and love. I tried uploading them to the DarkMod FTP, but I had problems, I posted in the FTP thread. (I have cable access here at Uni)
  19. Hello. To answer your question reagarding equipment: I'm using a PC, with a Terratec Aureon 7.1 Universe sound card. Cubase SX + VST instruments for music and yes, I also use Goldwave. You can probably upload the files to the Dark Mod FTP server, there is a thread about it where the passwords etc are. I should probably upload the SFX I've done for the Thief2D project there as well. And regarding your samples, some of it sounds good, though I really can't tell since I'm sitting with some really crappy speakers right now.
  20. I placed a few sound samples from my keyboard over in the Art > Sound > Sound Effects/Music > "Sound Effects, Ambience, Music" thread. Please check out that post: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...=findpost&p=779
  21. Hmm, something does look familiar about it to me. Maybe it was only used in certain books or certain notes lying around? Here's the post I got it from: http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=355674
  22. Doom 3 comes packaged with the level editor in the executable. All you have to do to access it is rightclick on the Doom 3 shortcut, click on properties, and add "com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor" in the target box after the quotation marks. But if you mean how we've made all the test maps, well...we've got lots of stuff down in the (currently?) hidden sections of the forums that go through it all step by step. It's a long process that'll probably bore the hell out of everyone not interested in the technical side of the mod. And yeah, the SDK will be free. As for the Garrett model...I think DeepOmega has been doing it in 3DSMax, not too sure though.
  23. Hello, I offered my help on the coding side on the old forums. Until the SDK comes out, a lot of the stuff I'd like to get started on will have to wait. As a result, I was only periodically checking the old boards, and only just now saw the message regarding this move. I'm still more than willing to offer my help on the coding side. I'm mostly interested in helping with AI, and movement code (Mantling, run/walk/sneak/crouch modifications). I'm also willing to help anywhere else that requires it. Even Art. Sorry for not posting anything for a while, but until the SDK comes out, a large number of things are simply speculation at this point. -oofnish

    Hello!

Hi there guys! This is Jim from DoomCast.com. I've been talking to Fingernail and offered him hosting and some space on our forums! Just wanted to say hello and meet the people who are going to bring out this awsome thief mod! I still remember the first time I played thief, lol, getting chased around the first manor and scrambling up a rope to hide hahaha Hopefully this mod turns out great! Anyway, gtg Jim Doomcast
  25. Hey, this may be stuff you already know, but people are asking about making coloured glass and stuff in this thread at D3W. http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5833
