Based on the direction we're taking I'd say that we're gonna end up somewhere in the middle. Some of our stuff will be inspired from the Thief series, like we might have some parallel of The Builders and Pagans in there, but that doesn't mean we're not gonna be throwing in tons of our own ideas, concepts, and maybe even factions. The mod wouldn't be nearly as interesting (at least to me) if we were just doing a straight up photocopy of the Thief universe without any of our own creative flair added to the mix.

My apologies for not posting sooner, the multimedia company I work for is getting shut down (the owner spent all are money on his drug problem… ) so I had to work 3, 12 hour photo shots last week to try and wrap up are projects, so we could get are last paychecks and leave this sinking ship with what we are owed. But now that that’s almost all over I will have more free time to work on art for your project and to fill out my portfolio! So in all I am happy! After closer review of what is posted on this mod's site: I would like to come up with a unifying theme for the environments. You know how the hammers had control over most of the cities and there influence was seen in the design and architecture of the first and second Thief games. If we are going to try and have some originality and not make reference to any intellectual property of Eidos as part of the Thief Franchise. We will have to come up with some original ideas even though we are going to mimic Thief stile of game play. We should have a story line with different characters (no hammers, no druids, ext), different environments that help drive your plot? And even a different mane character that is more then just a vial over his face away from the design of the Thief in the game we are takeing inspiration from. I think this is a grate idea for a mod but I think we need to decide on whether or not you are Photocopying Thief or Inspired by Thief? If what you want is to copy thief (for the irony of stealing thief) I don’t think you need artists like me, because Eidos has already dun all the creative work for you. However if you want to create something new and original I will gladly help beaus I love the Thief stile of FPS games and would like to work on an original mod of that nature. I am not trying to upset any one with this post I just don’t want to be part of copying another artist ideas and claming them as mine. It looks bad in a portfolio and I am planning on going in to the game industry with my portfolio as a compelling demonstration of my creative ability’s. So you see, I just can't redraw the past Thief games and call them my work... I want to work with this team but if we are not going to do any thing original my time is probably better spent working on a different mod.
  3. We've had this discussion already. Check out: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...%20dagger&st=50
  4. Wacom!!!!!!!!!!! They are like, the Creative Labs Soundblaster of the Tablet world. I have one http://www.wacom-asia.com/products/graphir...ire3_index.html (of course I have pasted you the Asia-pacific link, but just go to www.wacom.com and choose the correct reigon) That is the consumer model. Cost me $150 AU and has pressure sensitivity, and a cordless, batteryless pen, with the tip, 2 thumb buttons, and erraser head, completely mappable to any function in any program. Although the program has to support pressure sensitivity to benifit from the tip pressure. PhotoShop is great. I highly recommend it. It is powerful enough for your needs and very cost effective. I think anything more expensive is only for highly paid proffessionals, and most of us wouldn't make use of the features. That's only my opinion, but I do own the consumer one, and it does everything I want. Regarding your new concept art Darkness_Falls; ahh, colour dodge - looks like you've accustomed yourself to it quite nicely I think those look miles better than the originals. Colour dodge can be applied as a blending mode for an entire layer; you can get other kinds of effects that way, by duplicating your artwork onto a new layer and giving that new layer a different blending mode. There is a new game http://www.crashday-game.de/pages_e/news.htm - check the screenshots - the artist has taken the screen shots and done some layering effects to make them look like photos, not that they had much work to do with making it look realistic, heh, but they've obviously used photoshop to give them "photograph" looks - how everything is sort of blue-ish, and goes darker around the edges. Just another way of creating mood.
  5. This question was asked in the Ion Storm forums a while back. I thought it might help us to conjure up more resources and spur more creativity... Source: http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=290033 The City is an amalgamation of times and places, both actual and fictional. Medieval & Victorian London and France, modern-day Prague, and even parts of Boston (home of the ghosts of Looking Glass) have been mentioned as real places that influenced the look & feel of the City. Some oft-cited art references are The City of Lost Children, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Name of the Rose. The works of Mike Mignola (Fafhrd / Mouser stuff), Tim Burton (Mr. Wrought Iron Himself), Jules Verne, Charles D-i-c-k-e-n-s, and Alan Moore / Eddie Campbell have also been mentioned a fair few times as influences. That's just a sampling, there are dozens of others .

Haha. 1500 student? Yeah right. Try 500, at www.studica.com. All of my software is student priced I love that site. Adobe Creative Suite - under 400. That's Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, and Acrobat, for under 400 bucks. Adobe After Effects, for 275. Hell yes, I say.
  7. Whoa, can we shrink that image down a bit? Images should be kept at a reasonable size on the forums...if they absolutely need to be bigger than 800x600, then we should use a link. The cathedral doesn't look bad, but that tower really looks familiar. Is it based on something? I originally thought of Orthanc, but I know it isn't the movie version.
  8. hey guys. just checking back at the forum to let you guys know that i'm still here and awaiting directions. i've only started looking around the dark mod forums, but havent yet seen everything, ill continue on to see what resources / info is available. well, fingernail or whoever's in charge , when you have some work for me, just email. thanks . btwy, forums is an ok way to get informed, but what we really need is an irc channel.
  9. Don't forget to look at the links, not just the pretty pictures (there is a limit on IMG tags in a post). Anyway, onwards: Weapon Models Bow Arrow (just broadhead for now) - figure 146, not 147. Short Sword Blackjack - you know what this looks like. I'd prefer less of a T3 club to more of a T2 style hard material thing. More coming....

I have more art examples then what you can see at my VCL archive, the problem is I have no place to up load work at this time! Yes I like the Japanese styles of art but if you look at: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...ptsSketches.jpg I think you will see I can do just about any stile that is needed. The problem with the VCL archive is they have content restrictions on the types of art that can be uploaded: only Furry Art. This stuff is more of my hobby art it’s like my favorite pastime (other then being a pervert, lol). If you don’t think I can pleas test my skills and ask me to drawl something for your project. As fare as modeling and animating go I am not as experienced but I assure you I am very good with sculpture: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...01-by-date.html and 3D modeling. As I have mentioned I have no place to up load this stuff. I could send an email with some other art and 3D models if you want to see what I am capable of. I will have to spend some time at home scanning and prepping my other work to show you. Because I cant really use office time and equipment on personal projects. But they do let us getaway with some surfing and non company emails. But I am going to spend the money and get an ISP so I can up load more of my work to show you better what I can do. I have been trying to save money so I could up grade my computers (I need to get a MS SQL server to test/develop my database code for my personal project). Most of what I am working on now in my free time is managing large dynamic persistent environments, which can be streamed over the web, searched, ext... Well at any rate if you would like me to prove my self by just jumping rite in to the modeling or art asset generation pleas feel free to test me! I see working with your teem as a chance to diversify my portfolio and grow more skilled as an artist! But if my willingness to work for free isn’t enough I will be glad to take the time to get my portfolio site back together and pay to host it online so to compel or prove to you that I am a talented and creative artist. that would like to help with your Thief style project. Regards, Maus

If you want to stay free, use Blender (someone wrote an exporter for D3).... You could learn Lightwave and I'm sure it's great, but I think there has been an exporter written for 3DSMax also. Not sure though...check the D3W forums.
  12. I think perhaps I'll have to pick up Blender to carry us over our lack of 3D team....that is, only one modeller. Adverts have gone on D3W, ttlg & polycount: any of you advertise on any other suitable forums too.
  13. The face sketch is here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...3&st=0#entry796 I wasn't sure whether a side view was necessary...if you'd like one just let me know.
  14. I placed a few sound samples from my keyboard over in the Art > Sound > Sound Effects/Music > "Sound Effects, Ambience, Music" thread. Please check out that post: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...=findpost&p=779
  15. Hmm, something does look familiar about it to me. Maybe it was only used in certain books or certain notes lying around? Here's the post I got it from: http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=355674
  16. Doom 3 comes packaged with the level editor in the executable. All you have to do to access it is rightclick on the Doom 3 shortcut, click on properties, and add "com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor" in the target box after the quotation marks. But if you mean how we've made all the test maps, well...we've got lots of stuff down in the (currently?) hidden sections of the forums that go through it all step by step. It's a long process that'll probably bore the hell out of everyone not interested in the technical side of the mod. And yeah, the SDK will be free. As for the Garrett model...I think DeepOmega has been doing it in 3DSMax, not too sure though.
  17. Hello, I offered my help on the coding side on the old forums. Until the SDK comes out, a lot of the stuff I'd like to get started on will have to wait. As a result, I was only periodically checking the old boards, and only just now saw the message regarding this move. I'm still more than willing to offer my help on the coding side. I'm mostly interested in helping with AI, and movement code (Mantling, run/walk/sneak/crouch modifications). I'm also willing to help anywhere else that requires it. Even Art. Sorry for not posting anything for a while, but until the SDK comes out, a large number of things are simply speculation at this point. -oofnish

    Hello!

Hi there guys! This is Jim from DoomCast.com. I've been talking to Fingernail and offered him hosting and some space on our forums! Just wanted to say hello and meet the people who are going to bring out this awsome thief mod! I still remember the first time I played thief, lol, getting chased around the first manor and scrambling up a rope to hide hahaha Hopefully this mod turns out great! Anyway, gtg Jim Doomcast
  19. I'm not a part of the Dark Mod team actually, I can't code, do models or textures anyway. Kinda dedicated to Black Cat Games aswell... I'm just hosting the forums for Fingernail and the crew.
  20. Ok, I'm not a team member but I had a looky and noticed that the thread was closed - which is a shame because some further clarification might be needed. I havn't read the terms and conditions yet, but as far as I know Doom 3 and Id's Doom3 SDK are not released under the GPL. Id only release their code as open source (quite a different thing from letting people play with the source code) several years after release and the shelf life of the product has expired. Neither is GPL a 'non commercial' or 'free' license, it just happens that a lot of free software uses GPL. Meeting the (fairly hefty) requirements of the GPL will almost certainly infringe Id's own copyright as you will be granting the right for anyone to distribute the code commercially (doh). And, just in case you havn't got the gist of this post yet, the GPL has been designed exclusively for the distrubtion of software code. It is next to useless for licensing creative content such as audio, textures, level designs and so on. The deeds offered by Creative Commons are much better suited for that kind of thing. In short. GPL is wholesome and good, but unless you specifically know otherwise, steer well clear. Id will probably mention terms and conditions for distributing Mods in one of their readme files.
  21. great work man I hope I get D3 tomorrow in the computer store, where I buy my new computer components. If everything works fine I'll be able to play D3 on highest-details in 2 days BTW: as soon as you've got your ceiling we should post this screen in the ttlg-forums, I think people will be really impressed.
  22. There's nothing wrong with the window, looks perfectly thiefy to me. A moon? Never! No time to modify. Springwheel's stuff's perfect anyway. (Runs away with the artwork to the Imperium forums.)

Arg. Sorry forgot to include contact info. God_is_my_goldfish@yahoo.com Or PM me in ttlg or ionstorm forums.
  24. A cool tutorial from the D3W forums about creating new creature models. http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5133
  25. I've made you an administrator now, Fingernail. Set up the forums how you want it.
