  1. Hi guys. My name is Alex and I am the team leader and artistic director (in fact the sole artist) for a mod known as Killing Floor which is using UT2004 tech. (www.killingfloor.net) I have always been a Doom 3 fan, and as I see all the other great D3 mods go down the crapper, i've noticed that you guys continously look very, very strong. Anyway, im a damned good artist and i use 3d studio max to create my work. If you reach a point of desperation for artists i can probably take a bit of time out of my own work to create things like map objects etc. Although character modelling isn't exactly my forte. If you are in trouble, please consider that there ARE people who care and would like to help. This is pretty mcuh the last and best Doom 3 mod i see in development that's even worth looking at. Looks fantastic so far!
  2. I asked NH to compile it into a summary, so he should get back to you any time soon. If not then kick him. Ehm. Delete this last sentence Mrs. Moneypenny.
  3. I don't so art. I only do site code. HTML, CSS and JavaScripts, although I like to avoid if at all possible since I also use the far superior PHP (and JS is not always cross-browser compatible, but PHP is). Oh, and of course mySQL. You've seen thiefpetition.com. That's all my hand coding. I don't do art though, and the colours are just those of the forums (I thought they looked nice ). I chose JScripts for site wide stuff there because it was easy and quick. And now there is no need to change it to PHP as the editor is on it's way and the site doesn't need any further work. I like this site. But the versions that whassisname did were pretty nice too. And I still cannot understand why you guys don't have thedarkmod.com. I'm also of the opinion that graphical links are bad, unless they are specially fudged to still work sans images/scripts. Eg, on this site removing images borks the menu. If you want to read without viewing the screens and whatnot you are screwed. You can't get to the forums either. Why would you want to do it? Many reasons - slow connection, machine has images turned off by admins/parents/ebil forces, resolution issues, browser issues. The only sites that can have heavy graphical interfaces are those that are all about graphics as if you can't see the interface there is no point being there anyway. Not so this site.
  4. ???? What do you mean "typical multiplayer, one against the others"? Thievery is many against many. Last night there were 2 of us thieves and 2 human guards. They can give the AI guards orders though. Dram - where did you hear that Nightblade will not have torches that can be taken out? And judt FYI - Nightblade now has 3 (yes three) teams, Guards, Thieves and Shades, some supernatural blood drinker things also capable of Thief-like stealth.
  5. When that happens, I think I'll throw in the towel too. I vowed never to, but if even the biggest modding Doom 3 forum kicks the bucket, I don't think there's any more point in me modding I really don't think so though, cos BNA himself is a modder, and theres still a lot of activity going on (even id developer Brian Harris visits that place from time to time) Sure wish someone would go hack the HL2 forums though. Time to teach them a lesson or something
  6. New Horizon

    *sigh*

Yeah, Sledge was saying the very same thing about the big Doom 3 mods last week. They're all pulling out. I don't know if they feel it's just too much work or what. At any rate, I'm not going anywhere.
  7. I'm often surprised by how much of a guilt complex some young Germans have about the Nazis. There was a German guy on the ISA forums who was almost grovelling to be forgiven, even though his grandfather opposed the nazis and helped jews escape. I can't imagine what must be in the minds of those who's grandfathers were actually nazis or gestapo officers and were responsible for murdering 1000 people or something. Of course it's nothing to do with them, but they can hardly ignore it either.
  8. yeah, like your advanced tech won all those wars...oh no wait, YOU LOST!!!! ahem.
  9. Okay, now try the link... I edited the last post I did and fixed it there as well... sorry! trippystring2.ogg Also, here's something for The Scary Place possibly. The loop has a little click at the end that I'm in the proces of fixing right now, but I wanted to get feedback before I finalized it.... l7lowambient_loop.ogg Hawk, I'll process the chain sounds mor eheavily.. sorry... I'm such a wimp when it comes to special effects.. I never use enough...
  10. Quick replies: 1. Oh I can do it. No problem. 2. I'll take care of that as well. Maybe I'll break it up into two smaller files. 3. Ok. 4. Aha, now I get you. Hm, we should ask the programmers if this will be possible. Otherwise we could just make them fade in and fade out in the soundfile, since "tension" sounds wouldn't last very long. (You're talking about stuff like when you sneak up on that guard in Bafford's basement right?) 5. Great. Remember to post it!
  11. I'm getting a 404 on that last one
  12. HEY GUYS Cloak has been discussed and decided. If you want to rebuke the desicion, read here first. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...indpost&p=14844
  13. AS with the last writer we had (he didn't quit, just kinda dissapeared) we'de have to see some sort of examples or what not. I'll let the team leads explain more.
  14. it could still snow here (SE UK), like it has the last 2 years. Torrential blizzards, literally about a foot of snow in only a few hours. That was last year And that was within one day, exactly a year earlier, 2003. And it's almost "that time of year" again.
  15. Last time I saw so much snow was 2000 but then I was still living in Vienna/Austria.
  16. That's how much we got in the storm yesterday. Third storm in the last week and a half. I think we have had a total of 70 or 80 cm's fall in that period. Thankfully some of it melted before this storm hit. Apparently we're getting another one this week too. LOL This is the worst we've had in years.
  17. Ahh, I see. I was so sure it uses havok (like HL2, UT2004, FarCry, etc), no matter. I guess a physicalized rope could be difficult... though an animation which makes the rope look like it's fiddling a bit would be enough i think (like in t1, t2). Guess the ropes would be used with the design of the map i guess. One last question: How many people have tried my mod? Just curious. If you've tried it, then please tell me any bugs, suggestions, etc, cos it's greatly appreciated . --Dram
  18. What is with the "guest" bashing? Just cuz I'm not a member and new to the forums doesn't? Why does it matter? I just don't understand the climbing glove hate. I'm not trying to make you change your minds (as if!) but if you know that your dislike comes form TDS, you must also realise that it is a little unreasonable.

    The Main Man

Since I was supposed to finish that model last week I've been busy. I was doing the elite guard concept, then figuring out the rope for Domarius, then making the player arms an bow, then getting together some references for this model, and I'm currently doing the bow and blackjack animaitons. I'll finish the house guard before I start on the thief though Ishtvan, those are good points, but if we start getting into this realism thing, then he shouln't be wearing loud shoes either. The reason I'm doing the frog and not a sheath, is because it's easier to animate - or at least when he draws and replaces the sword its'll be too quick to see that it is cutting through the frog straps. If there was a sheath you would see it cutting through. I'm goign to do this frog idea foe all the weapons. For the hammers, they can have a ring holder on a baldrick. Springheel pointed out that there is no game in existence where players draw their weapons out of sheathes, and theere are technical animation reasons for it.
  20. Great, thanks. Yeah, one of them was that one I sent Pakmannen, but don't worry about being busy, happens to all of us. Due to my ineptitude at Fruity Loops, the overall volume of this track is fairly soft. I fixed up the volume a little bit in Goldwave, but I kept getting unwanted distortion when I tried to go any higher. So you may have to turn your speakers up or use a media player with smart volume management to actually hear anything. Thiefesque.mp3 I'm still not happy with the choir part in that, but don't have time to revise it now. Also, after I was done, I noticed the last guitar melody is VERY similar to that of the Thief 2 intro theme. Guess I was a little 'too' inspired. Here's another one that doesn't fit as well with Thief; it's very 'techno-y' with lots of synths and stuff, but I wrote it with some sort of stealth game in mind, so figured might as well post it. stealthy1latest.mp3 Btw @Sparhawk: Don't get worried that I wasted valuable "coding time" to do these, thiese were done before I joined the team.
  21. Actually, I think Tyrot's got the finished/colorized fountain, according to his post over here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...indpost&p=13323 However, there are two fountains in that thread. I think (though, don't know) that Tyrot was only going to do the colorized one. I didn't get a chance to finish this one, but maybe there's enough here to work from. The only part of this fountain I didn't finish was the base. Whereas the other one was completely made of stone, I envision this one here having an aged metallic top of some sort (brass? copper?), maybe with some gold accents incorporated throughout the remainder of the fountain? Scratch that, how about the whole fountain being ivory marble with gold accents?:
  22. Yup, it could be potentially the best game ever, if they don't fuck it up with blatant laziness in some areas like the last time, but the main problem area in Morrowind is sounding pretty good in Oblivion at least... 'Oblivion features a groundbreaking new AI system, called Radiant AI, which gives non-player characters (NPCs) the ability to make their own choices based on the world around them. They'll decide where to eat or who to talk to and what they'll say. They'll sleep, go to church, and even steal items, all based on their individual characteristics. Full facial animations and lip-synching, combined with full speech for all dialog, allows NPCs to come to life like never before.'
  23. Hey, wow! That T1/T2 effect sounds pretty cool! See this thread for more info: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=938. Maybe we should be doing the machine types of sounds in stereo rather than mono, to achieve this effect? What do you think we should do, Pak? Here are the above files re-done in this sweet T1/T2 style. Compare them with the original mono files posted above: machine_hum_4-swirltest.ogg machine_hum_3-swirltest.ogg machine_hum_2-swirltest.ogg machine_hum_1-swirltest.ogg Also, Pak, I've made that 'wet finger around a wine glass' sound less pronounced here in this "humamb" file than in my original one, per your request. In doing this, I noticed there was a slight sparkle sound hidden in this file. I liked it, so I brought it out more for us to hear (humamb_1_sparkle.ogg). I could imagine the sparkly one used in a crystal cavern or something. humamb_1.ogg humamb_1_sparkle.ogg And Pak, I've removed the "hiss" from the Harp sounds, per your request. Also added a new one (harp_loud_2.ogg). harp_soft_1.ogg harp_loud_1.ogg harp_loud_2.ogg Additionally, I've created a new Ocean Shore sound. I made this sound as though it's off in the distance rather than really close: ocean_shore_1.ogg Comments are welcome.
  24. Thanks Saxmeister! I'll try this out. PS: FINALLY! Something Sparhawk is not good at or doesn't understand! PPS: Just created some sample files using this cool effect. See the following thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...indpost&p=14256
  25. I was under the impression that bows 400 years ago would not last very long anyway. Maybe a few months at most. THey'd be easily cracked or snapped, or just lose their spring. It's not like this is a family heirloom or anything, it's a functional item. I intentionally kept it as simple and rugged a desgn as possible. None of these things have to be the final game version though, but they'll do for now in testing.
