torch lit via a script

Is it possible to light a flaming torch that off via a script, I can get the area light to light the area, but I cant get the actual flame to start.

I've tryed restarting the flame particle, but I get a strange black cubic fountain.

Tryed to set the extinguished value from true to false but nothing I do will let me do that.

Can change the start off value to on via $<torchname>.On(); but it just turns the light part on.

Tryed activating the modellit model but that doesn't work. tryed starting the flame with a fire stim, but dont really understand how the stims work or which of the fire stims listed in the drop down are the ones to be used, eg like using a fake fire arrow to start the flame part without a big bang.

Basically want some fire torches to relight themselves when the player enters an area as though they've been turned on via a hidden hand or magic.

Although if this isn't possible at this time, I can skip it, and just have them already on.

There are functions called frob_ignite() and frob_extinguish() on all TDM flamelights. You need to cast the light entity onto the proper script object before you can call frob_ignite/frob_extinguish though:

light_moving_ext lightObj = $light_1;

if (!lightObj)
{
// not a real light?
return;
}

lightObj.frob_ignite();

A better way would be to call:

$torch.LightsOn();

The torch is a light holder and has a script object that has that function, and it will do the proper things, not just turn on the flame.

Technically, if you turn on the flame, it will call LightsOn() for you on the holder, but it is more clean to do it the other way. Because that might only work properly with v1.01 as v1.00 is sometimes buggy.

Also, LightsOn() will also work for things with multiple flames, while if you turn f.i. one flame on on one wall_torch, the other one could still be off).

There is also a LightsToggle(), which toggles the flame, while frob_ignite and frob_extinguish only allow on and off.

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
