Posible Bug: grill_light.lwo

Evening

regarding the following entity -

models/darkmod/lights/non-extinguishable/grill_light.lwo

After copy and pasting said entity the light source center adjustment 'dot' wont highlght(go from green to blue) and let me adjust it. I then changed the position of the center via the property editor, but in when in-game it remains unchanged..

any idea's..?

I've occasionally known this but never found it to be permanent. I always thought maybe I had been in vertex mode before (say for a patch) and not switched it off so it confused DR. Try restarting DR and try it again or create the entity again. The grill entity light centre itself does work OK - I just tried it.

No joy I'm afraid. also I have seen this issue since version 1.2 on all light based entities.. As soon as they are rotated or moved the adjustment in vertex mode becomes unusable, the 'dot' refuses to be selected.

Also something else thats been bugging me since version 1.2, when I rotate any light source the adjustment of the bounding box becomes reversed or back to front - would this have any bearing on why vertex mode is giving the problem it is etc..?

Ah - after a rotate. I see it now in v.1.1.1. Maybe a pecularity of the way these entities are made up of a model and a light. Add it to bugtracker (check if it is already on) but I don't know if it is something that wants fixing in the entity def.

As a workaround you can create a new grill light then move the centre first. Then when you rotate it the centre seems to move relative correctly. Or alternatively the old-fashioned way, make a model torch and and make a separate light.

Before that you might also try rotate the grill. Deselect, maybe select another entity. Then reselect the grill and move the light centre. Maybe DR is still 'thinking' about the grill just after rotating. Just guessing wildly here. One oddity I noticed: after rotating the grill and messing with the light centre, I deleted the rotation property on the entity but the grill model did not rotate back to default.

i know theres definately some problems with rotating light sources, as the A-Z guide says never to rotate them. I tried it once, and it screwed things up. I've never had any problems dragging in vertex mode though. probably unrelated..?

I tried something similar, previously...

On the one working grill light (ie. the vertex adjustment works) I moved the center to where i wanted it, i then cloned and and rotated, but the same bloody thing again - in-game its as if I had'nt of moved the center...grrrrr:angry:

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
