General hand/arm movements anim

I've not kept uptodate with animations but recall we did mention a possible general purpose arm movement anim for when say an AI is stood in front of a table or shelving to suggest they are busy moving stuff or mixing in a bowl or whatever. Nielsen74 has made a rather nice harpsichord prefab so if such a general anim were made and if it could also work sitting it would do nicely to get AI to play keyboard.

Did we ever get something to work to rotate AI under a table when sitting? Sorry I just can't keep up with everything.

I think the use_righthand animation already works well for that (there's a specific mixing animation but it's still WIP due to problems with Tel's detach code).

Yep. You can see it in action in this video:

Yes, the card-playing works with any AI (I can't recall if I did vocals for all the voice-sets, so it's possible some of those are missing). There's a prefab you can use for reference.

The spinning is on the wiki, likely under sitting (though the prefab has that as well for reference).

I can't get this to work sitting down. I've tried it on the path_sit. Then I removed the waits from the path_sit and targetted a path_anim then to a path_wait but still not working. Maybe it only works standing up?

Yes, it's a standing animation, though I thought sitting overrode the leg channel. It does for idles. What exactly are you trying to do?

I have a city watch who comes and sits at the front desk for a time. This works great with the new rotate even in a tight space he is close up to the desk with his legs swung under. There is a log book in front of him and various books and paper about. I wanted him to look somewhat busy if possible, maybe writing or reaching for things - but otherwise the normal idle anims are OK. I've put anim use_righthand on the path_anim.

You could replace the regular idle sitting animations with the reaching animation. It would then play only on the torso channel.

syntax is (names are wrong):

"replace_anim_idle_legbrush" "use_righthand"

While looking for what they are I saw idle_animations_sitting with a long list which I replaced with this one. It works and it's OK but not quite what I had in mind. He's sitting down for maybe 30 or 40 seconds and reaches forward to the book a couple of times. That will do. Ultimately we want a continuous varied motions of both arms for use in different situations. Even better if there were several motions played randomly - a reach to the left - a reach forward, a rotation (like stirring) a reach up, and so on just to look busy with a shelf or table. For use sitting down these need to be higher. I had to lower the desk a little for this reach forward.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
