Open Outcast

Hey people, I recently found another neat modproject called "Open Outcast". Outcast was a very cool game and I am happy someone is making a mod of it for Crysis Wars. Apparently I still don't have a machine that can run that game properly (I mean Crysis ;) ), but by the time this mod is released, I guess I'll have a proper pc...

Here is a link to the homepage and

is a cool video demonstrating the questsystem, daoka(portal) traveling and the conversation system and it's also funny. :)

looks like they've ditched the voxel engine they were using.

crysis dosn't seam to run well on most machines its due to the way it sets it self to run on your machine, it basically looks up the device codes for the hardware in your machine and then sets the configuration to a predefined set of rules. One slight problem with this is that when hardware becomes obsolete the hardware manufacturers reuse those obsolete device codes in new hardware. the crysis program still has a list that hasn't been updated since first quarter 2007. eg I have a intel core 2 quad cpu that uses the same device code as a intel pIII, so when I run crysis it thinks my computer is a pIII running very slowly, crysis then runs awful.

Yeah the same thing goes for GPU's... ATI has had PCF in hardware for several generations now yet most game engines will see ATI in the Vendor string for the card and automatically disable PCF. Some folks have software installed that makes these games think that their video card is nVidia just so they can have prettier shadows (PCF)

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
