List of bugs for Particle editor

Recommended Posts

If it's ok I'm going to list the bugs in the particle editor as I narrow each one down definitively. I'll just make a new post here when I narrow a new one down.

First thing I've got. The particle editor does not load a material if it precedes itself with "material". Example:

The editor won't load this material:

material hexen/serpent_projectile {

The editor does load this material:

hexen/serpent_projectile {

Both ways are acceptable in id tech 4.

Discussing here is fine, but if you have identified new issues please also log them on the bugtracker at http://bugs.angua.at/

As I understand it, in theory a def file can contain any kind of def if it is preceded by the relevant type. I.e. you could have a skin definition in a material .mtr file by preceding it with "skin". Adding full support for this would be prohibitively time-consuming, but the parsers could at least ignore the optional word if it appears before the definition name.

Is the particle editor broken in the latest SVN build? I rebuilt this morning and now can't see anything.

Yes, it seems that way. Turning on wireframe mode shows that the particle quads are there, but there is no rendering of textures.

i did a search on this bit of code 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 and it was reported elsewhere that when this bit of code is generated in a crash that it has something to do with the wrong version of the vc++ 2010 being installed. Anyway to get around the crash all you need to do is create a empty 'example.prt' (its a txt file with a prt extension) in the particles directory, and then you can create your particle in darkradiant and save it to the empty file.

Thanks for the heads up, and its a good backup plan. I will still have a look at it from the VC++ perspective though.

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
