I'm new to the Thief series and I was wondering something. I went to steam to see how much Doom 3 was(out of budget) so I could run this dark mod. As I was going through the requirements I noticed it said Vista is not supported. So if I ever am able to get Doom 3 will it stop me from being able to run this mod because it says non-compatible with Vista? Thanks for reading

Doom 3 was originally not Vista compatible but the 1.3.1 patch fixes that.

It looks like we have to update our install wiki as it still refers to the tdmlauncher which is no longer needed now that TheDarkMod.exe exists...

Edit: Do not purchase BFG Edition. Only vanilla Doom 3 will work (it was added back to steam because only vanilla Doom 3 works with mods)

Cool, once I get the money up I will get doom then. So all I will need to do is download it and activate, then come here and start the download of darkmod?

yes that's about it.

 

Download and install Doom 3 (vanilla)

Create a darkmod sub-directory under your Doom 3 install directory

Download the tdm_updater

Run the tdm_updater and it will fill your Doom3\darkmod directory with the mod files

When complete, locate the Doom3\darkmod\TheDarkMod.exe file to launch the mod

Optional\Recommended create a desktop shortcut to TheDarkMod.exe

 

Pretty easy...

I'm on Vista. No probs with TDM. Just make sure you get D3 patched.

Depending on where in the world you live, sometimes you can buy a used copy on Amazon or some such for very very cheap. I got mine for I think like $3. But going the Steam route isn't bad, especially since you don't have to worry about postage or messing with physical CDs.

I can't wait to play this mod. I just recently bought T2 and I'm trying to get mods to work with it to enhance the graphics, but it's all too confusing
