You know, I just thought of something. Currently, the longsword spins on its point like a top when you throw it, in a most unrealistic (and rather silly) way. Is this because of the position of the origin, or because of its mass? If we're going to have all the weapons have their origin in the same point, isn't that going to cause them to react very strangely when thrown, dropped, etc?

No, center of mass is calculated by physics independent of the origin. It spins like a top because of unrealistic settings in mass, contact friction, and finally air friction. The last one will take a mod on our part, because Id didn't allow customized setting of the air friction on moveables, even though they did allow it to be set for projectiles and everything is there to just link it in from a spawnArg.

Good question. Is the centre of mass always equal to the origin in Doom 3?

No, but the kinematics physics doesn't care about the origin, it independently calculates the center of mass. So does our rotation code.

Some things that use approximations do use the origin though, which means the farther away it is from the center of mass, the more inaccurate those things will be. Frobbing uses the origin for a rough distance test, for example, if nothing is frobbed directly and more than one object is within the frob tolerance bounds. So the origin should be placed near the center of mass whenever possible.

I've noticed something strange about the houseguard eyes since syncing up. It's like there are white textures floating a foot in front of the guard's head, turning as he turns.

He used the d3 approach of creating eye meshes. I fixed that but I haven't committed the changes yet. It'll be up soon.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
