Prefab Safe Problems

Recommended Posts

This is addressed to whoever submitted the prefab safe (furniture/misc/metal_safe.pfb).

Please fix these problems:

1 - The door origin is in the wrong place.

2 - The door handle rotates around the wrong axis.

3 - The prefab origin needs to change so that the prefab appears in DR at the selected spot, not a thousand units away.

4 - When the door closes, it should make a nice metal clang, not the sound of a wood door closing.

5 - If the door is opened, items inside are frobable. If the door is closed and reopened, they are not.

6 - Some of the surfaces use the texture "textures/mcity/mcityplain6", which is a D3 texture not available in TDM.

Maybe this is a WIP, I can't tell.

Thanks.

Was this uploaded recently? If not it's quite possible the author is long gone.

If it's not fixed, it should probably be removed to keep those problems out of future maps.

It's a nice little safe, and I fixed the problems I noted. I just wanted the contributor to fix the prefab. If no one claims it in a couple days, I'll submit a new one with the fixes.

I couldn't find suitable TDM door open and close sounds for a small metal door, so I grabbed a couple from freesound.org. I can either commit those to the mod, or leave the prefab's door w/o sound (which would be better than the default wooden door sounds).

@Gman I can fix all the issues with it this evening and make a model if you like..?

That would be good. IIRC, the safe in RTTC v2 had the frobbing problem during beta test, so perhaps you fixed these problems in your map, but the prefab version was never updated?

At my end, the problems are fixed, but future use by other mappers requires that the prefab be corrected.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
