Tell me more about this DarkRadiiant editor

Recommended Posts

Yes, it's actually easier than the old "Dromed" editor for Thief. No need to know any programming.

There are even Youtube videos which show some editing basics.

Edit:

The place where most folks start is here:

There's also a "Starter Map"

Here's the Dark Radiant page so you can find keys (etc):

Here is a thread with some tutorials (videos):

Follow the tutorials, even when they seem tedious or you have bigger ideas than the tutorial covers. It's easy to get started and then go off on a tangent, only to realize later that you missed something basic.

You're gonna love it.

Keep in mind, for the very first time you go to run the 'dmap' and 'map' commands, darkmod will assume the following map path: 'darkmod/maps'. So inside the maps folder in your darkmod folder, it is suggested to have an individual folder for each map and makes it easy to have the same name as the map file. Lets call the first map 'map1'. Inside the darkmod/maps folder will be 'map1' folder which contains 'map1.map', made in Dark Radiant.

To load that map in TDM console, you would type simply 'map map1/map1'. To compile the map (before loading it), you would type 'dmap map1/map1'. No quotes of course.

System: Mageia Linux Cauldron, aka Mageia 8

Since you type dmap whatever and map a lot, I do it a little differently, I just make the folder "t", so I "dmap t/mapname". Less typing, and when it's all done can rename "t" to be the mission name or whatever.

Also you can up arrow in the console to get the previous command back. So dmap, then up arrow, home and delete the d for map ...

Because you will be doing it a lot you might also consider adding something like

bind "F9" "dmap maps/mymap/mapname"

bind "F10" "map maps/mymap/mapname"

in Darkmod.cfg located in the root folder.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
