Newbie Thief 2 question (about mantling)

So I am going through the seemingly infinite amount of FM's for Thief 2 and I am having a great time except for the mantling. Often I am trying to mantle off a rope arrow onto a ledge or something and instead I miss and hit the floor wearing apparent metal boots with a loud thud.

Also sometimes I am sneaking around a house then decide to jump through a window and Garrett just never seems to grab onto the ledge and instead I usually just jump up and down and the person in the house wakes up wondering wtf is happening. This is a bit frustrating but is there a way to fix this? Something like Darkmods mantle button would be great because just using jump can be a bit risky

I have installed the latest version of NewDark which is meant to have improved mantling support however I fail to notice that, is there some secret trick to getting mantling to work right in Thief 2?

Also (and this may have nothing to do with it) but does anyone know if DarkLoader defaults to using NewDark? I have Thief2.exe and Thief2_ND.exe in my main folder and I was wondering if I should rename Thief2_ND to just Thief2.exe and remove the original Thief2 exe?

I don't know if it's a trick, but I think there is a sweet spot where the ledge meets your "body" where the mantle happens. IIRC it might help to back up a touch and jump with some forward momentum looking more horizontally so the edge comes at you more horizontally at your chest or midriff, as opposed to being directly under it and jumping straight up looking up at it, and it comes down to you vertically and doesn't hit the chest sweetspot as squarely. If that makes sense.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

May be worth checking your 'cam_ext.cfg' file - look for:

; enable new mantling code

new_mantle

Make sure there isn't a semi-colon in front of 'new_mantle'

Ah there was a semi-colon there, just removed it and going to test it in game. Thanks!

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
