Mirror models?

Nowadays people know how to make mirrors textures like the water puddles on floors in the newest Penny Dreadful.

But we don't have mirror models that would use the mirror textures. Should there be ones, or is technically unfeasable?

Something like this:

And with stand:

It is feasible, but mappers should be aware that they should not place them in performance sensitive areas. Mirrors causes additional rendering passes.

In addition I'm not sure whether it is possible to have several mirrors in one area. For the security camera only one view can be rendered at a time, which means you cannot have several screens showing the views of several cameras at a time.

If mirrorRenderMap is used for the mirrors, they may suffer from the same issue. But I think there is also a mirror keyword for materials. (But as you can set the resolution on mirrorRenderMap, it is normally the better approach).

EDIT: Now that I think about it, in Doom3 there were several materials which serves the purpose of security screens. MAybe the problem is that on one material only one view can be rendered, and that if you create several ones (all containing the same definition), you can have several views. Will have to test that.

Some time ago I was experimenting with one of mirror textures (maybe water one?) and had few problems. One occur when behind mirror was an complex brush or open space- mirror image had strange angles. In some cases mirror become black, but it could be related to number of mirror shards -when I tried to make a mirror room every mirror had only one "layer" of reflation (wonder if program could have a bigger number of reflections to process). And I couldn't make a breakable object with this texture, but maybe a prefabricated model instead of brush/patch based func_static will be free of those issues.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
