System Shock Infinite

So did you guys try this one out already?

I must admit I never played System Shock, although I already own it on gog.com. Is it important to play it chronological or can I just start directly with System Shock 2 (which seems to be the most famous)? System Shock Infinite will continue the story of the second game, so I guess I should at least start at the second game at least ^_^

Is the first game a must?

How are your thoughts on System Shock Infinite?

Whoa, I'd never even heard of Infinite!

System Shock 1 is amazing, but it can definitely be tricky to get into. It'll help to install all the modern fixes in it to get proper mouselook etc.

I wouldn't give yourself too much of a hard time if you just want to start straight from 2, it gives you a rundown of what happened during System Shock 1, so you won't get lost plot-wise. But yes, I do highly recommend playing 2 before you play any newer version!

The first game isn't required to play SS2, and it is very different in style. The second game is one of the moodiest horror games, but the first is more ambitious, and has much more interesting mechanics/equipment. You really feel like a hacker going up against a vast, super-intelligent computer system.

Definitely play SS2; and SS1 if you are okay with a wonky control scheme and mid-90s graphics.

I have heard a few things about SS2: Infinite, but as I recall, they weren't very favourable.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
