Map Drawing Tutorial:

It is a good technique. That's how I have always been doing it.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Thats possible?

I always wonder about that, because I somehow miss it, and thought its just not in TDM.

Good to know, reading it in the wiki now.

I don't think "you are here" markers are supported by TDM right now but I might be wrong. Obsttorte created a map gui that fill itself in as the player explores, so new areas of the map appear only when you visit them. I don't think it had a current position marker but he might know how to do it (assuming he hasn't already of course).

I have a thief style automap working in my WIP which highlights which room the player is currently in. Its just a modification of obsttortes script and not that hard to set up, only tedious because you need to create unique guis for each room and make each room a unique location in dark radiant.

@biker, yep but it was tedious for me

I think I'm not seeing the whole picture, lets say we have 4 info_locations, outside, inside, basement, sewers. What do you need to do for each gui for those 4 locations..? are you not able to use copy and paste in notepad++ to streamline the workload..?

Oh yeah, the actual gui def is just copy pasting, but you need to create a unique image to go along with each room. So for me I wanted to recreate the effect in thief where the room you were in would highlight on the map when you were in it, so I had to create a light blue image the same size of each room so that the appropriate highlighting would occur when you stepped into various rooms in the house.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
