New Release: Darkradiant 0.8.0

Recommended Posts

I have a working package here with GTK+ 2.10.8 binaries:

http://208.49.149.118/TheDarkMod/DarkRadia...N_GTK_210_8.zip

This can possibly be used as a template concerning the DLL packaging, I have tested it on a machine without GTK+. If it resolves the problems with the notebook tabs on your system as well, this might be our candidate.

I tried this version -- by default, it isn't using the Wimp engine which means it displays in the default (classic) GTK style only, rather than XP style. Switching to the Wimp engine reveals the same broken tabs as the other versions.

Perhaps we should just give up and put the tabs at the top?

This would be acceptable, I think. Maybe we can put a switch in the registry, so that they can be optionally drawn at the bottom (for my personal use :)) without having to recompile again.

We can make the tabs go back down as soon as the GTK+ issues are resolved. The GTK+ 2.10.11 seems to be screwed, however, so we'll have to wait for the next release and try again.

I've put them at the top for now. I'd rather not have too many GUI-related registry keys, otherwise the code will become a maze of "if the user wants the buttons the other way round and the menus to be in blue and the scrollbar on the left, then do this, otherwise ..." checks, which will become a nightmare to maintain. One of the rules of GUI design is to make a considered decision and stick with it, rather than putting everything in a config option.

I'm quite happy to put them down again once the GTK issues are fixed, although by then we might be used to having them on the top.

I think we can unsticky this thread as well as the other one "Latest Release Available now".

Maybe we can have a single announcement thread with the link to the darkradiant.sourceforge.net website? Same goes for the sticky thread in the Level Editing forum (which I think still says 0.8.1).

(Ideal would be if Orbweaver and me could have thread-editing (moderating) rights for this forum so that we can update these threads on our own.)

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
