Zero Punctuation is gold.

 

I was at the Game Developers Conference this year, making me one of the first people to see Yahtzee's developer's choice awards skits. The entire audience (myself included) was in stitches. It was especially amusing because a lot of people in the audience had actually made the games he was talking about, including Half-Life 2 (Gabe Newell was there, amongst other Valve devs), Bioshock (lots of 2K Games people there - Bioshock won three(!) different awards), and others. When I was watching the bit where he talks about "the year's best faceless voiceless nameless dork", I was keeping in mind that the creators of Gordon Freeman and That Guy From Bioshock were in the audience with me and also seeing it for the first time, and imagining their reactions... :D

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

I lost interest after he became repetitive. His reviews fall into a simple template that anyone now could make up a fake Yahtzee review. He's just an English AVGN with an expiry date.

 

PUH! AVGN is so unfunny compared to Yahtzee. Anyone could put up a fake Yahtzee review, but it would take some talent to actually make it funny. The guy has a gift with words, sorry...but you can't just fake that.

I’m not going to dispute he has a way with words, but he’s fallen into a repetitive trap with them. His reviews are becoming horribly predictable, involving the same puns and esoteric movie/pop-culture references, and if he likes the game he’ll only briefly mention that in one line. After so many times bashing the same videogame design philosophies, it really starts to become a ‘no shit, Sherlock’ affair when watching his spiels, and I find myself barely listening to his ranting and having more interest spotting his cultural & media namedrops. He’s essentially turning into Family Guy.

Loose BOWELS are the first sign of THE CHOLERA MORBUS!

Sure, Yahtzee has a certain style, and if you don't enjoy it long-term then his reviews won't appeal to you. Which is fine, you don't have to like them.

 

The rest of us will continue to enjoy ourselves. ^_^

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
